Am i the only one who never gets Challenged?

I love reading the kill stories/street racing sections of this website and even LS1tech...but after all of this reading, and hearing how most of these races are random, spontaneous encounters...i wonder how come i've never been challenged to race.

Maybe its just the area i live in, because i can't really explain it any other way. I've driven by quite a few stangs and f-bodies on the highway, but never any takers. I even drove by a teenager driving a 99-04 yellow stang GT an he looked me right in my eyes but just minded his business in the right lane.

I'm not saying i would race anybody anywhere, but given the oppurtunity on either a clear highway at night or down an open stretch of road, with a similarly matched car, i might be tempted. I'd like to atleast give me car one nice sprint before it gets put away for the winter. I just find it hard to believe that driving a camaro around i've never had anybody try to take me on. Its pretty surprising.

It sounds like people are being smart and not racing on the street. If you go to a track you can race anyone and everyone you want .

No offense so don't take this the wrong way, but maybe they see a 3rd gen RS and think it's slow and don't wanna waste gas racing one.

I know when I had my IROC I wouldn't even waste my gas trying to get action with Hondas unless they started messing with me first. Then I knew they had something up their sleeve.

I thought about that too, but seriously how many people who arnt f-body/GM enthusiasts, are going to know that the RS's only came with v6's or the LO3. Maybe when i get my hooker catback i'll get some more 'attention'.

Shifty, this topic isnt about me wishing i could race everybody i see...its just to show my surprise that ive never even had some punkass challenge me.

Ah I gottcha. I think you need to have your car be flashy in a bad way. It seems to me that the only cars that rev at each other and or chase each other are ones that are loud, tacky, and flashy. Maybe they think you are too plain

I've never had a challenge...in traffic I've had a 4th gen rev and chirp it's tires at me once...was white just like mine too. I found it funny that "younger brother" was having some fun. I reved a few times just for kicks and nothing else happened. It was rush, what can I say lol.

I've never had a challenge though...I think having the Spokane Raceway not that far away helps

Yeah but it sucks when the only ones who will race you are really fast cars. Fully modded twin turbo fox bodies, 03-04 roush stang and even a ferrari once. Nothing in my tiny 305's league.

Oh as far as the RS badged cars dont be so doubtful. I almost bought one with a stock 270hp TPI350. Otherwise known as a B4C. It had a Baby blue paint job, and a burnt prom.

I can't believe what I'm hearing!

I get challenged just about every other day on my 05 saturn 4 door ION! LOL

No seriously I DO!
We do have a raceway but the people down here have a tradition of street racing. Every mourning when I go to work or comming home I get challenged from Neons to 350Zs to Ford Lightings. An before I put my camaro in the shop my little 305 got challenged by everyone just cause everybody wanted to beat a IROC!
Must have been the sound of that 3 inch exhaust.

I think more people are starting to realize the consequences of getting caught street racing. Police are really cracking down lately with fines, impoundments and even possible jail time. Who wants to lose their car or go to jail over a silly street race that means nothing when it is all said and done? Not me.

My only real "race" happened when I downshifted at a guy, and he took the baot. The second time we went he downshifted and I took the bait. Needless to say it was my first and only real street race in my 5.0, and it was against a Lamborghini Murchielago. Thank *** for bad drivers, I held him off till 120 where my car is done, and he was just starting to pull!

hey a mackarocious ill race ya that is before i sell my car(hopefully). but racing is how people die plenty of people get killed for stupidity. not saying i dont race around...but its better to keep it off the street. im being 100% hypocrit when i say this. but youll find something one of these days....if u REALLY wana race just roll your window down...get next to someone...use a loudspeaker and say "wana run?"
-easy..

Don't feel bad, I've had my IROC for 9 years and have been in 1 street race with it............and in 5 years owning my TA, I've been in none even though I've grown out of street racing years ago, I can't say I would back down if challenged

Sidewayz, since when are you selling your car??? Either way it'd blow me away.

Dano, i don't feel bad...i mean i ***** my car around. It rarely goes over 2k RPM when i drive it around town, so obviously racing isnt what im into...but i just can't believe that nobodies ever thrown a rev or anything at me. Like i said, i wouldnt mind doin one nice little 'sprint' before the winter, but if not, all the better for my car's lifespan

Over the years, i have plenty of races on the street (mostly highway) - 928s, Vettes, Stangs, 911s..... This was when I had the 2 big tailpipes from the Banks exhaust poking out - I guess they assumed I wanted to race. Now that I have the 3.5" Mufflex (hidden pipes), not too many people try to mess with me. Not like they would have a chance since I normally have the bottle in the car when I go places.

nobody challenges me either, whether in my old Vettes, or my 3rdgens, and now in my Buick.

there was even this 2ndgen Eclipse that thought he was badass or something making his BOV go nuts like every 50ft down the road. i pulled up next to him in my Buick and gave him a rev... and suddenly the BOV went mute. maybe the sound of my turbo spooling through the open downpipe scared him off?

either way i feel your pain... it seems no one wants to run anymore

Only people that seem to want to race me are trucks and SUVs. Doesnt make sense at all lol. Usually its a younger guy in a brand new silverado or a escalade with some girly in it wanting to show off ( prob thinking the 3rd gen is a turd ). Only good race i have had was against my buddies 73 nova lol and that was set up before i got in my car.

actually, i get challenged quite often in my RS, although i usually dont race.....
the other day, it was a '98 ish 4 door toyota camry, with 3 guys in it, all tellin me i didnt have sh*t, and he kept revvin at me with his coffee can out back. i just shook my head at him, because we were downtown. i would have liked to shut him up, but its dumb when there are people on the sidewalks and stoplights every block or two.
also a couple weeks ago, a teenage guy in an LS1 Z pulled up next to me at a light....i looked at him to say nice car and such, he didnt even look, just inched forward and revved.....some im like what the hell, why not, we were way out in the boonies, i knew id get smoked, but just camaro guys havin fun....so he smokes me, slows down, i catch up to give him a thumbs up, he didnt even look at me....*****
and i cant tell you how many fox bodies try to mess with me in town, passing me and slowing down and doing it over and over, and one guy kept doin 2nd gear scratches right next to me....
so anyway, i could race pretty often if i wanted to, but its pointless, especially in town, and especially with an LO3

I don't know that much about Camaros, but I knew that an RS was a waste of my time. Just for the record.

See this is what i dont get. You are a member of a third generation f-body website. One of the moderators of this section drives a RS with an LO3. Many people who post in this section have a camaro...and many of them have engine swaps. I just dont understand how you can say you dont know much about camaros. Sure you do. You continually tell people who post in this section that they will lose to various other cars. You know plenty about Camaros, a lot more than any typical import guy. So dont say you dont know that much about Camaros. Considering what you do know, you should be aware of how many people take RS's and throw in LS1's, LT1's, 350's, 383's, etc. Sure someone may think my car is a waste of time (because you cant see or hear the exhaust...yet --and it is by that respect), but i would hardly rule any RS out these days since MOST of them are pretty cheap to come by and easy to do a swap. Come on, you know more about camaros then you claim you do, and its probably insulting to alot of RS guys to say their cars are a 'waste of time'. Get your head in the game man!

That's true, but I was responding in the context of the question. When I had my car I knew plenty about Camaros, but I've always known that the RS was the base modle, even before I knew about Camaros. Personally, I don't care what modle the car was, if you wanted to instigate a race with me, I'd show you what I had. I can't even count how many piece of crap ricers I put 10 cars behind me just for the hell of it. I always got an extatic thumbs of from them.

EDIT: I wasn't meaning to be insulting, I was just saying that when you know the base model car, that's what you think when you have the faster car.

Actually, funny story. I got beat by a Third Gen RS when I had my third gen Integra (1996 GSR) and couldn't understand why I lost. My boss (at the time) is a chevy guy with a C4 Corvette and told me it had a V8 (of course he was reffering to the 305) and that's all I needed to know. See, I was always able to beat V6 Camaros and Mustangs, and the 4th gen RS Camaros were V6s. So when I saw that guy I was confused that I lost.

No harm intended from me fellas.

Yea stu, i wasnt tryin 2 insult you either...just sayin that with these cars being atleast 13 years old, alot of em have new/rebuilt engines in em so you never know what your gona get, and its kinda hard to generalize. Now, depending on what kinda car your in...MY particular RS may be a waste of time, or it may be an interesting matchup... Any 90's import, or 80's/early 90's sports car may prove to be an interesting matchup with a car like mine, however many modern (2000+) sedans could put a whoppin on a stock RS. It really comes down to the era of the car.

Back on topic ... I think that once i put my exhaust on... i may get actually get people to throw a rev at me or something. Maybe its cause my car is stock so people think into racing(which is pretty much true).

Just gotta be in the right place at the right time. I have been in a few races, mostly with friends. One time I was cruising my car, and I ran across a notchback, that was willing to play. Wasnt really a race since I was behind him on a 2 way road (1 lane each way). I totally got OWNED though, as his car took off hardcore on me.

maybe he likes us?

he knows alot about imports, most of you don't. I know some, and always try to learn more! "Know thy enemy."

I never waste my time with 3rd gens unless they start it, or it's a NICE looking car, or it sounds nasty. I can take any stock thirdgen, so why bother (save the LC2). If it looks nice, then it probably has something under the hood, if it sounds nasty, then I KNOW it's got something I usually only start races that look like they'll be close, they're much funner. But if someone wants to play and they're in stock Third Gen RS territory... I'll waste them like I wasted that buick on the highway last night by about 15 cars.

I always give clean thirdgens a thumbs up and tell them nice car.

As to you never getting revved at - Your car is stock. Doesn't even have a muffler. They probably don't think you'll race.

I use to own a 95 RS eclipse about a couple of years ago I was on the highway going about 80 or 90 heading for work. I was going around cars left and right when I came across a RS camaro. There were 2 mexicans inside an I guess they didn't like the way I passed them.

Next thing I know they were riding my bumper then proceeded to pass me so I thought WELL THE RACE IS ON!. I dropped back in 4th jetted in front of him about 2 cars and keep pulling then I let off at about 100. Well I guess he didn't like the out come because he keep trying to race me, so I started playing with him. I'll let him get to my door then pull him about a car or 2. Finally we came to a speed change on the road and I slowed down and let him fly by me as I looked at him he gave me finger! lol

Only real challenges have been made over the phone something like "Hey why don't you head down here and bring that POS car of yours. I'm gonna hand you your ****!" So I went down and blew the doors off his car, twice, and he hurt the engine during the race Felt bad but oh well. Other than that, no one pays attention to the car unless the hood is up, then they oogle at the engine Should put my stock hood back on to see what, if anything, happens then hehe.

my stock IROC gets way more challenges than my modded Z28.

the IROC is in much better body shape and flashyer than my Z28. I notice a big difference too if you have your car cleaned and waxed vs dirty.

I get a few more challenges in my Z28 when i added pillar guages but still not nearly as many as my stock IROC gets.

I never get races, probably because my car looks like it runs 10's. too bad it runs low-mid 13s

I'm really not big on street racing though..

I dont get challenged either. If I do its either an s-10 truck with two 350 lb guys in it, or some kid in a stock Honda. I guess thats good. Havent had a ticket in about 8 years. Maybe you should put stickers on your car. It makes the imports faster.

yay. did you win?

I got in a race with a cocky LS1 driver last night, first race in awhile. I was pumping gas and he pulled up with his gf and said "LT1 right?" "Yeah." "Oh, LT1s were pretty slow, wanna race my LS1?" Then with an evil grin on my face, "Sure!"

We lined up, I holeshotted his *** BAD, pulled two cars instantly and held it to 75-80 when we let off. He was slowly gaining at the end. Guess he couldn't drive a stick hahaha

Bow to torque.

Not a whole lot, this one was driver skill. Like I said, he was gaining, had we kept going he could have passed me. I figure he couldn't launch a stick.

Although I've seen some slow LS1s out there.. ran one at the track a few nights ago, he ran a 14.2@99 to my 14.0@99 lol.

It's funny though, take one trip to the track and you'll see LT1s outdrive LS1s all the time, at least through the 1/8th. I like being the underdog, makes me all the more proud when I win.
