I was hanging out at my friend's VW shop and one of the guys there is talking trash. (20th Anniversary edition GTI, more mods than my jetta) He finally says he can beat my camaro and that I dont have the ***** to go get it. I knew this guy and what he had and I wouldnt have a problem. Not to mention it would let me test out my new setup. I came back in 10 minutes with the camaro. Suddenly he trys to back out. You call me out, you better back it up. We finally line up. He honks 3 times and we go. He doesnt launch, but actually takes off slowly then punches it. I waited for him to punch it before I hammered it. By 60 (and alot of tire spinning) I had 3 cars and I was pulling pretty good on him. Second race I told him I was launching and not waiting for him and to make sure he was ready on his mark.

I launched at half throttle and the tires started lighting up. Funny part was is that he got traction and I still beat him off the line. He was 1 car back when I went to 2nd. By 70 I had 4-5 cars on him. He told me there was no way he could beat me at this time so going again was pointless. I go back to my friends shop and tell them.

The GTI has all my mods, plus a upgraded intercooler.
My camaro is a L98 with a LT4 cam, Pro-Magnum 1.6 RR's, Digital 6 Plus, Headers/Exhaust, ported upper plenum. Transmission is a Pro-Built Auto 700R4 with a Corvette converter, 3.42 Posi with 265/50/15 tires. Weighs ~3475 with me in it.

On the way home, a white 3rd gen started playing with me. He had his girlfriend in the car and I would pull on him without downshifting. I finally get 10-15 cars on him and slow down to 80. Here he comes trying to pass me. When he gets about 5 cars back I downshift to 5th and punch it. When he reaches my door, his pull stopped and mine started as I walked away. I waved goodbye as I started to run away. At 120 I decided to let off knowing that he most likely had a 305 TBI and they are limited to 115. He rolled down his window and said "that thing is fast." I them told him that earlier today, my third gen camaro beat a VW that had more work than this one. At that point I left him behind, never to be seen again.

My VW GLI has a chip, 2.5" downpipe, underdrive pulleys and a short ram intake, it is by no means fast, but it definately surprises people.

Yeah, same basic gearbox as the R32 and the 6 speed Audi TT's. Except it doesnt have AWD.
