Back in the day...

Ive always wondered who would have won this race a few years ago me vs my buddy.

My car: 1985 Camaro Berlinetta hardtop L69/700R4
- fresh tune-up
- rusted out i-pipe/muffler delete mod
- 3.08 posi rear

Otherwise bone stock, ran good and in good tune, tohugh it had been beat on its wholel ife and had 140k miles on the ticker. blown front struts

his car: 1989 Camaro RS 2.8L/5 speed
- DF Clutch
- lowering kit
- cat back exhaust
- good tune

also otherwise bone stock, ran pretty good too. looked like **** though, was always in the process of bodywork.

We never raced but I was curious who would win??? also, another question....what do you THINK it would have ran with the following mods?

- Performer RPM air Gap intake
- LT headers into ****ty 2 1/4 dual exhaust
- new shocks/struts
- smog removal
- edelbrock 625cfm carb
- b&m Megashifter

think it was capable of high 14's or just another 15 second Camaro? I ended up spinning a bearing on the street racing a 5.0...so no track times or dyno times.

BTW, I know a berlinetta never came with an L69 but the previous owner said after the original LG4 blew up, the pulled a 5.0 HO out of an 84 z28....so it ended up in the engine bay...

I take it you have never driven a V6 that came in these cars. The L69 would win hands down.

With those mods, it probably would have been a mid 14 car. The new carb wouldn't help at all, shocks and struts don't really help 1/4 times, and I don't think a shifter would affect times either. Smog removal wouldn't add any power, possibly free up .5 HP.

Earlier this summer, I was out driving and I stopped by some guy's front yard to look at his '88 Camaro RS he had for sale. It had Buick GN wheels and fresh black paint and was in very nice shape, although it was only a 2.8 with a 5-speed. The guy tried to tell me that it would beat my LO3 off the line because the 5-speed gave it more torque

He told me to take it out for a drive, so I did just for the hell of it. Not suprisingly, it was quite slow. Slow indeed. So yes, to get back on topic, I completely agree that your Berlinetta would have no problems against your friend's 2.8 RS.
