'04-'05 bmw M3's??

I had a buddy almost cried to me today LOL! LOL! about a new model M3 that handed him his a$$!!. He drives an '02 stang GT with about 1500-$2000 worth of simple mods and bolt ons. The part that cracks me up is when he said "aren't those bimmers six-bangers?, I thought i could take him no prob" lol!! I said to him they are the six-bangers from hell in your case.

Heh. It's wonderful when people have no idea what a car is all about. Did you see this yet?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

I guess it comes with this.
3.5L TT 360HP/400TQ, 6 speed. Top speed of 181 MPH.
Pretty clean for 126,000 miles eh?

I will be the first to admit id rather have an 02 WS6 than ANY third gen car. A third gen for me right now is the best bang for the buck.

I guess you could say that thirdgen owners are too proud of their cars, but at least i know my cars limits, as do most others. BTW i love the 65-93 mustangs and the 05-06 mustangs, but their are SOOO many of those 94-04 mustangs it's ridiculous. Most of them are V6 autos too.

My uncle has an 03 M3. He lets me drive it all the time too. My LO3 makes more torque (hahahahaha) but that 333 HP outta that NA 6 makes it pretty ballsy. If you go by the 'magazine' numbers then its like a 0-60 in 4.9, 13 second 1/4 mile car (i dont know where in 13's??). I mean my camaro will spin the tires off the line just as easily as the M3 but the M3's HP just makes it rocket up to crazy speeds. Extremely solid car too. You can cruise in that at 90-110 MPH and it will feel like 60 MPH in any other car. Amazing

/End of my M3 speech.

When I was living in Jamaica, we used to get the European spec G-Touring right hand drive ones down there, they were called MTech instead of M3(totally different monsters from these in the U.S) and those suckers would run mid 12's right of the freight ships.

Nice car, but it isn't an M car like the lister claims (plus it's a 5 Series and this thread references the 3 Series - but I'm nitpicking).

Just watch out for the new generation 3 Series M when it comes out - 400HP V8 in that little car should make it beyond fast.

I've always liked BMW M3's...don't care for the M5's though, they were always too damn big and heavy.

Yeah, but the new M5 doesn't suck:

507HP
7 speed SMG gearbox
4.1 seconds 0-60
1/4 mile in the high 12s
Near 200mph top end

All for a mere $80,000 or so.

you should hang out here a little more

most the old timers know what I'm talking about here.

"can my tbi hang with a new srt4 that has a slightly larger turbo. I have headers and exhuast."

" I raced a GT mustang in my V6 should I win or lose"

"I have a l98 should I be able to take on a supra from a roll. both cars are stock"

people post stuff like that all the time on here.

granted, in their stock form they have enough to outperform a lot of other stock cars but there is still a but...

who cares if they outperform cars when:

- You look like a dick driving one
- It's ugly
- You're a tool if you buy one

if you wanna go fast for 80grand buy a Z06 or a Viper.

I bet I can see a bunch of BMW drivers/owners on their site saying the same thing about Z06 / Viper owners......

i wonder how other car makers justify making barges for 6 figures when they look at and see the Zo6 perform.

You guys are acting like clowns and making me rapidly lose respect for some of my favorite members. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that there is a BIG difference in the luxuries provided by an M5 and ZO6. You should ALL be ashamed of yourselves for the things you are saying.

Just owning a car makes you look like a dick? Stereo type much?

Well, thus far I've never seen anyone driving an M5 that didn't look like a dick, but I'll keep looking

Of course I understand the luxury difference between the M5 and the Z06. That's because the Z06 was built to be fast, the M5 was built to be nice. That's why I said, if you want to go fast for 80 grand, look at a vette or a viper. If you want something nice, look into a bimmer or something. But personally I'd never own an M5. It screams "rich stuck up ******" to me.

the only problem i see with vipers are that can't hook for sh*t! even with like 335/35/20 tires or something like that, i've yet to see a viper quat and go. I'm not in anyway taking anything away from their supercar status...im just stating what i see over and over at the track.

exactly... two different animals....m5 is luxary sedan with *****... Z06 is bare knuckles performance car, giving you the best motor/suspension you can get for 70grand. minus the luxaries. granted i think the new vettes interiors are nice, but compared to the top supercars in the world, there is alot left on the table.....

but me, i can get by that.. i dont mind materials.. as long as it looks good and is functional. abit of comfort is nice, but i can get by as long as i feel good while driving the car. as thats what i will be doing

In case you missed the numbers I posted above, the M5 is almost as fast as Z06 or Viper in almost every regard, not quite, but close. Plus it seats 5, has room for plenty of luggage, and is dripping with luxury. It's also an M, which means it was, contrary to what you might think, built to be fast.

I don't get why the person who drops $80k on a BMW is a dick but the one who drops the same $$ on something else isn't. The posers are in the cheap BMWs!

There's no way in hell an M5 is gonna run 10s with just tires with ~130 mph trap speeds. sorry.

a Z06 spanks the **** out of one in every way shape and form in regards to performance.

Oh, gee, I missed the dream where a stock Z06 runs 10s. Sorry.

the new z06 will actually run mid- high 11's stock, so a couple bolt ons and slicks it probably could hit tens.

and about the BMW's they scare me as well. a buddy of mine's mom has a 328i. it has a 2.8 inline six. it will run 14's and it handles like a go cart. if i had the money i would definitly buy a bimmer, but not an M3. its too flashy. I would get a 330ci with the sport suspension. almost the same as an M3(runs 13's and handles like its on rails), but it looks just like any other 3 series bimmer.

-talk about a sleeper( especially with a super/turbo charger and a 150 shot)

A good race for the E42 M3 would be a Reg. c5 AUTO vette.

Ever drove one? I doubt it.

Its not just about going fast. Its about having one of the best driving cars in the world. My next new car is going to be an M3. I will keep my thirdgen to go really fast, and keep the M3 for when i want to go somewhere in comfort.

I agree. People who have 80K to 100k to spend on a car don't care about price justification. They want everything about the car to resemble their lifestyle. This means, no crappy plastic, rattles, performance or materials. They could care less if the car runs 12's. They want the car to handle, accelerate, brake and look better than most of the cars out there. They win in 9 out of 10 categories. If they wanted a car that was intended for "pure speed" (category 10) they would buy an exotic.

I'm willing to bet a fair percentage of M5 buyers may well have an exotic in their stable as well.

Then you've been missing EVERYTHING about the vehicle. A stock one driven well will run an 11.5 off the factory floor. Add slicks and it's an easy high 10 second car.

The quickest official bone stock Z06 time is a 11.768@125.1mph . The quickest Z06 with bolt ons would be Paul's (Major Spray) car with a 11.3@123.1mph. These are the quickest official times from corvetteforum . There have been rumors and others claiming faster times but could not provide any kind of documentation. The 11.3 pass was done on drag radials and had headers. I don't quite see a bone stock Z06 doing a 10.99 bone stock. Possibly with a brake swap to fit a 15" drag wheel setup, it could run 10's but then its not stock anymore.

I guess you missed all of the GM test videos were they had the designers of the car and official gm drivers whomping the **** out of them and pulled 11.5s?

still at 11.7 it's not far from 10s. Tires and some exhaust with a GOOD driver.

When you get lower in times, its much harder to get that tenth of a second then when your in the 14's and 13's. Trust me

You're digging yourself in deeper here, you know that, right? I never said the M5 was as fast in a straight line as a Z06 and you want to keep harping on how a modded Z06 is even faster still. So what? You could mod the M5 and make it faster too. You can mod any car and make it faster. Certainly that isn't news to you.

The M5 and M3 are damn fine cars, and so is the Z06. Heck, so is the cheapest C6 you can buy for that matter. You just need to get over your stereotype of BMW drivers.

so....if you read that...you also know that ranger hasnt got his car at the track yet...i see 10s from him. and...a 11.3@123 obviously shows something is wrong when a stock car went 11.7@125... so 10s will be showing up once all teh tracks open

The best I have seen was an 11.6. So im sure an 11.5 is in there somewhere. They just need to get a really good launch.
