I like the Viper motor but GM made the same power with 15% less displacement. In DC's defense they had it first though. However, the viper motor can make out of this world power (see treynor on LS1.com who makes 1500 at the wheels). Time will only see what people get out of the LS7.

I'd take either a Viper or a Z06. If I had to choose, I think I'd go with the Viper. I like the new Viper's styling more than I do the Z06.
Course it doesn't matter because I'm not going to get either unless I win the lottery. If I did, I'd get both anyway.

That is correct. It will be a de-tuned version of the LS7 with a blower on it. It it "said" to produce 650hp and will be use in the limited production Sting Ray that will be ressurected. If GM says it will make 650hp than that means it will really be over 700

I like the Ford GT's the best. BUT lets compare prices. 65K for the Vette, or 120-150K for the GT. I think i will go with the Vette and put the extra 55-85K into the Vette
. rrrr I hate talking about things i cant afford
I dynoed 460RWHP with my Z06 and went high 11s at 125MPH. A tad faster than a Viper I think. Raced a Ford GT with my Supra and got him by about tenth and MPH(11.8 at 122.9 vs me at 11.78 at 123MPH) but who knows if the GT was run by a good driver.
Not sure what mods I will do to my Z though...

well most GT's i heard of on SVT performance run mid high 11's cuz street tires but trap near 128 and some say it has hit 130. it dynos 530 at the wheels. not sure i beleive the 130mph trap speed, cuz power to weight, the Z06 is close and it has only done about 125.
anyway
thats one reason the fbody died i believe. advertising and making the product appear alot better than it is. chrysler is selling some crazy looking vehicles and at first i didnt like the styling, but its growin on me. all the effort spent on making the HEMI motor sound like a real hemi really payed off. its a shame GM couldnt market on the same level
anyway
Isn't it funny how the only way to compete was to do a little R & D. Ripp off & Duplicate. It only took them 8 years to match the LS1 and when they did they had to make a near carbon copy of it. Chrysler sucks. Their marketing is so good that millions of idiots around the world think that it is a real hemi. 99% of then find comfort in that four letter word yet most of them have no idea what it means or that their pride and joy water cooler discussed motor is a fake. On an engine dyno a '97 LS1 will still make more power and eat less gas. Does 5.7L ring a bell? Congrats Chrysler... you are mediocre

That combination with a good cam will make a motor superior to an LT1, get into DIY prom tuning V8Rumble and you should be running with LS1 cars.

As far as the tuning goes, I'd like to get into that (even found a laptop to use), but I've started a new job recently, & need to devote all of my spare time to increasing my skills there. Maybe this next winter, for now I'm thinking of going with a PCMforLess tune...

(Yes, I know that they're a better design than the L98, but they d@mn well should be, having had over 15 years of additional design with ever-faster computers...)

As stated before I would put it against alot of cars without fear including the new Mustangs and there's always nitrous for the guy you know can beat you. Good luck with the build.
Depending on how my finances are over the winter, I'm hoping to be able to either go through the bottom end & convert it over to a 383, or to buy a centrifugal blower...
* (But I've been toying with the idea of drilling & tapping the underside of the StealthRam's plenum for a hidden pair of jets, basically like the TB plate systems, but without the visible plate. :evil grin: I'm thinking that a "ghetto-rigged" system like that would probably lead to mixture distribution problems though...)

And GEEZ guys, I wasn't asking for the merits of various late-model engines!
I just wanted to find out how a halfway-decently modded thirdgen would stand up against it's closest competitor (ignoring the differences in years, of course)...
Any chance this thread could find it's way

Well I raced one from a 20ish roll today in my car that runs 13.63 w/o nitrous and he took me by 3 cars to 100, and he was a manual. He definately had exhaust and i'm not sure what else.
