moving up

ok now that im done beating on v6 liberty's and v6 camaros i think its time to try something a little faster.

My friend just got a really nice 87 Mustang gt, the car purrs like a kitten lol. anywho hes getting it on the road in a few days and wants a race.

His Car:
1987 Mustang Gt
5.0L V8
4 Speed Auto
not sure on rear end ratio. his only mod is a cat back exhaust.

My Car:
1989 Firebird Formula
LB9
700R4
2.73's All stock otherwise

Do i have a chance at all? im pretty sure im making similar torque and hes making a little more hp. i believe those fox bodies weigh a few hundred pounds less. If i do wind up loosing, how would headers and a cat back exhaust help me? thanks for the help!

87 GT's with a AOD had 2.73's. Anyway it is going to be a drivers race with the edge going to the Mustang.

If its stock he can have a choice of 3 gear ratios...

2.73
3.08
3.27

If they have been changed he can have any ratio out there offered for 8.8 rears. My guess its stock and a 2.73 and with that he should be a low 15 second car, maybe clip a high 14.

Eons ago, my cousin had an 89 GT AOD and I had my 86 LB9 w/ 3.23s. Both bone stock, he won. I added a chip and exhaust and I won. He added an exhaust then I added 45 cubes and I won again.

Close race, if both cars are running well and driven well then the Mustang will probably have the edge. Get yourself a catback and some headers and that right there will probably be enough for you to win.
