my iroc vs non pi 97 t-5

well my friend and i raced he has a 90 camaro TBI full exhaust/ intake/ pulleys/ free mods and a 5 speed i have a 350 89 auto mods in signature and we pulled up to a stop light and he dumped the clutch at 2000 i just let off the brake and let my car roll he was way ahead of me (i wasnt trying to race) i give it 1/2 throttle spin alittle bit then 3/4 throttle and flew past him at 45. the next day he raced my other friends non pi mustang t-5 3.73's h pipe catback fuel rail and lost by two car lengths. My question is how bad will i smoke the stang. My car in overdrive sometimes pulls hard as **** when i floor it and other times not as hard i guess it depends on what gear im in. I figured id power brake to about 2,500 slowly let off and floor it once i get traction. My question is 2,500 a good rpm to launch (i have ****ty 2.77's) And how should i shift my auto so it wont start off in a higher gear then it should be (it's hard to shift 1st to 2nd without missing and going to 3rd).

With a stock converter Im not sure your going to be able to footbrake it to 2500... If you can thats a nice starting spot for an L98.

As far as how bad you should beat him, not sure. 3/4 throttle and walking by means you should do the same to the Mustang at full throttle.

You'll beat the stang. Those weren't very fast. You'll footbrake at most to 1400 rpm with a stock 'verter.

Without spinning the tires?

If so you either:
A. have an aftermarket converter
or
B. Something is ****ed up

yeah if that car's doing 3500 on a foot brake you're converter's shot or you're melting clutches in your trans. You'll beat the stang if your car's not sick or out of tune, I'de just take off, don't get to eager and blow the tires off. Friends 98 stang has exhaust, PI intake, CAI, 3.73's and he's bested mid 14's off spray. Biggest improvement hands down was the PI intake, when he got the car it ran 15.6's.

Try having a Mustang with an AOD... a tranny that skipped 2nd gear. Picture this...

OD
D
1

Put it in first, 4800 push up and it shifts around 5200-5400. But it shifts into 3rd. Pull back into 1 and it drops into 2nd gear. Hold that to 4800 and slide it into drive. I did this for a few years anywhere from low 15s, to low 14s. Needless to say it was NOT fun. Now its right foot to the floor stab the clutch and pray the T5 goes into the next gear!

Lol, yeah ive had a few fox body stangs. That AOD is a joke, not to mention the first gear ratio

90camaroTBI raced the non pi and only lost by 2 car lengths now he has a roller rockers and a new clutch and i beat him by more then 2 cars even after his new mods so im sure i will have no problem with the 4.6. I called him monday night and he said he and his boy with a turbo civic want to race this goes on for about an hour they both chicken out to the 350. Alls he said was the 305 was pretty quick and he was afraid to race my 350 he talks all this **** about how a thirdgen would never beat him but refused to race and the turbo civic has a 1.6 vtec he swaped a swaped 5 speed and a turbo runs 18psi im sure he would smoke me but he chicked out too. Ended up racing a lancer oz rally and beating him pretty badly after talking him into racing probaly got 10 cars on him in overdrive from the dig.

raced him a couple of weeks ago

Well we raced a few weeks ago from a dead stop i foot braked it to 1,500 and when i went i just floored it spun horribly and fishtailed and caught traction its pretty bad my auto 2.77 car spun more then a 5 speed with 3.73 but anyways he beat me by a car. So then as i hear him screaming in happiness laughing at the 350 i tell him i spun bad and he just said excuses i told him to race me from a 5-10mph so i could catch traction i eased into it and beat him by a good 3 car lenghts. Then he said that doesnt count and if my car was faster id beat him from a stop too. Appearanty i need to learn how to get on my car without spinning and invest in some traction mods. Also last weekend i was in my friends g/f neighboorhood when a guy in a pi mustang with bullit wheels throws a rev at me so i throw one back he follows me to the main road from a 30mph he guns it and so do i, his engine was screaming over mine and me in my friend thought the pi mustang with atleast exhaust was gonna beat me but nope all the way up to 75 he stayed a car behind. The best part is when lost he didnt even get next to me and talk he pulled a u turn hahah
