84 Z28 vs. mustang club president's son

this guy down the road from me has been telling my friends and harassing me about my 84 z28 that i just recently got. his dad holds an office in the local mustang club (i said president in the title just to catch attention....hope it worked) and they just got their son a fox body 5.0... i dont know much about the fox bodies and im pretty sure its a cobra (if they made cobras back then...i want to say his is an 89) it is completely stock except for flowmaster cat-back. my 84 z28 has intake manifold carb cat back and maybe next week hooker 2055s...how will i do in a race against this cat? we will probly race in a few weeks on the back country roads where i live. i hope i can beat this kid since their entire family lives and breathes mustangs. what do yall think about this race?...

Your going to be in trouble here for many reasons...

First if he does have a Cobra it has to be a 93, and even stock those cars have some good parts on them. A few bolt ons and that car will move. I would say its more than likely not a Cobra but if his family is a Mustang family (mine is) it could be a Cobra, and in that case your in big time trouble.

If the car is a stock 89 5.0 with just a catback it will still probably be faster than yours, and with a family into Mustangs you better believe modding it will happen soon, and he should know what to do with it to make it fast.

Take it from a younger guy in a Mustang family, if they know what they are doing, a 14-15 second 305 wont be much of a race!

What he said. If it isn't a Cobra (275hp) you might have a chance on an auto. Stang (225-245). The automatics have a tall first gear which makes it a dog out of the hole. The only chance you'll have on the 5 speeds is if he doesn't know how to shift.

Hide a nitrous system for all you're worth on your car. Trust me on this, a Fox body Cobra isn't to be taken lightly. Camaro's sporting the 305 engine had to take second place to the Mustangs all the way up until they released the 350 TPI's. You're at the bottom of the Camaro engine pecking order so you'de best saddle up with those long tubes and a 125 shot. This, some sticky tires, and driving skill should give you a good edge on him. Just hope his boys on the Mustang forum aren't telling him the same thing right now
