Finally a vette.....

Been wanting this for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

Last night just went out for a ride. Got bored and decided to head home. As I pull up to a stop light, what have we here, a 2000ish vette. You never know what will happen so I drop 'er down into low and wait for the light. Light turns green and we start to ease away getting faster and faster. Finally about 25, ah what the hell, I punch it and he falls behind. He pulls in behind me and follows me.

At the next light he pulls up and asks what I have in there. Just a 350 I say. He says me too. Then asks me if I want to run again. Well, does a bear crap in the woods? There is traffic ahead so we have to go up and make a u-turn to get lined up.

We get set at the light and he says we'll go on green. Pull her back in to low and wait. We were an a slight incline and I know I'm going to spinn so I need to be light on the gas. Light turns green and we both pull away even. As I roll into the throttle she starts to spin but not to bad. We are dead even until about 35 when I get full traction and I start to pull ever so slightly. at 45 I have full traction and hit second. The tires bark, the car lunges and I'm half a car plus on the vette and pulling more. We make it to about 65 and then have to back off for the next light.

At the next light the first thing out of his mouth is....did you spay me man?
Nope we don't spray...all motor. The he starts to ask what has been done and the light turns green. With cars behind I thank him for an enjoyable time and make a right turn.

It's good to be King.

Re: Finally a vette.....

Good kill but you only raced to 65?

You're gonna beat a LS1 off the line with your L98.

Race a full 1/4 and see what happens

What do you run at the track?

Re: Finally a vette.....

Thanks for the kind words. it was dark and don't know if it was z-06 or something else. I have just been wanting to try one of these for quite awhile. I tried to run a new 427 vette a few months ago but he wouldn't play. Yup, I'd of lost but it would have been fun.

Drag radials would have made a difference, no doubt, but if she hooks to hard I think the rear is going to pop since it's still untouched and has 188,000miles on it. That is the area I plan to address next, well after the stealth ram and dyno tune anyway.

As far as the track, can't do 1/4. With the convertable top I understand anything under 14 without a roll bar will get you tossed. They did just open a 1/8 track around here and I'll go check it out. Not the same as a 1/4 but will get an idea. Still have the same fear of popping the rear though. Would be a good excuse to git-r-done though.

All in all, I don't think this vortec crate is running to bad though. Now, if I just get the afr heads and a blower then.......

Re: Finally a vette.....

Thanks for the tip. I just went and checked and found a site that backs up your statement. The 'ol girl should be capable of high 12s so the point might be moot. But thanks for the info. I'll try the 1/8 track and extrapolate to see where she stands.

Re: Finally a vette.....

It's a carte vortec tpi engine from scroggin dickie with all the parts that includes. 52mm Holley throttle body, custom chip, shorty headers with 2.5 in hooker exhaust, ported plenum, gasket matched runners w/plenum/intake, aluminum radiator, k&n filters, msd6 box, brass roter, brass distributor cap, 8mm plug wires, gutted cat, afp regulator set at 42psi, timing set at 10*btdc, underdrive pully on crank, 700r4 rebuilt with kevlar, and a set of 255/55/r16 tires, lca, panhard bar, torque arm, strut tower brace, and eibach springs. I probably forgot something but that is the most of it. Also have an aluminum drive shaft to go in and the stealth ram too. Still have the carppy 2.73 rear gears but since it spins so bad now I'll change to 3.23s with the stealth ram.

Car still has AC, pw, pl, etc. No weight reduction at all. Heck, I've even gained a little weight since I bought the car. Might run 11s with a lighter driver. Car looks stock wheels and all. I even left a scrape on the front air dam for effect.

For what it's worth I installed ls1 power seats with lumbar, man the are nice.

Re: Finally a vette.....

Not sure what cam you have but unless those heads are worked and you ditch the TPI there's no chance in hell you're running 11's.

I mean no disrespect by my comments but a crate motor like that won't be running 11's.

Re: Finally a vette.....

those are the new v-tec twin turbo carbon fiber nitrous heads. honda makes em. I also have some stickers to put on the car which is sure to give me a couple tenths.

The comment about the 11s was more in reference to my girth than actual reality, hence the smiley face. Tounge n check and all that don't cha know.

On to reality...heads are modded for a higher lift cam so the cam is the lt4 hot cam with the 1.6 rockers.

11s in vert without a roll bar? Nah I think I'd pass.
