Late Night Cummins Run
Last night heading back from T/A Nationals in Dayton OH
about 15 miles from my house, got off the exit to get onto rt66 bypass
sitting at the toll booth about 3 rows over is a dodge cumins diesel, he took off blowin smoke everywhere out of the toll, 3 rows over i shot out and chased him down, just kinda screwed with him all the way down the highway
just for fun id let him take off get a few car lengths then id downshift and fly past him doing 110 or so... it was a nice end to a great day and ride....
+ i actually think these trucks could take a few 5.0 birds and stangs... they got some power, couple run up at the track ( round about high 13's low 14's )
Does anyone know if they do a twin setup on those trucks, it sounded real nice.

Re: Late Night Cummins Run
my boss has a cummins 1 ton, 6 speed. Its pretty fast for a heavy truck, they are single turbo, as far as i know, but they make twin kits for it. And with a simple chip i think they can make something like 150 more horsepower and torque

If this was true (which it is when they are modded) you forgot to add thirdgens to list, as most of the thirdgens put out in the 80s stock for stock were slower than most of the 5.0 Mustangs!
I have seen a few fast diesels, and even had a friend who's tow truck (F250 extended cab) would run into the mid 13s. The Cummins is a great motor too, has potential!

[QUOTE=25thmustang;3448107] He said 5.0 birds.
Funny how you just HAVE to downplay a thirdgen to a stang......AGAIN.

Isn't a 5.0 Bird a thirdgen? Or did he mean thunderbird..dun dun dunnnnnnn. Regardless, who cares, this thread is about trucks. Not adding every car that a truck could beat. I seen some nasty trucks, they can handle a ton of power. The turbo diesels atleast.

And FYI stock for stock a thirdgen with a 350 tpi would stomp a a 5.0. In a straight line and on a road course. Does it make you feel better about yourself coming to a third gen forum and putting them down? Atleast our cars dont look like a econobox.

Re: Late Night Cummins Run
i recently picked up a 91 dodge d250 with a cummins turbo diesel and getrag 5spd. it's a fun truck and will tow like no other! the fast CTD guys are saying that with a simple turn of the fuel screw on the VE pumps, they are hammering out an additional 100hp and 200 ft.lbs. that's just insane!

I figured if you were talking thidgen you wouldnt limit it to just the 5.0 birds, but then again I was wrong, no worries...
Second off, you got me, I got lost on my way to the Mustang boards I post on, good one! You guys make better jokes... (sarcasm by the way, for those that can't read it).
I enjoy my 12 second econobox (does get 27 mpg, so I guess it is an econobox!) and if you really think an L98 car would "stomp" a 5.0 5-speed, then I don't know what to say, you obviousely haven't been to the real world yet!
Also to note was at the track last night, figured I would get to see a fast Diesel truck run, but nothing. Too many imports out there for my liking!

and btw I wouldn't speak so ill of econoboxes as it goes as many of them now can run at least what a 305tpi can with some going into l98 grounds... AND even keep just about on par with them in the road course.

Re: Late Night Cummins Run
as far as the road race goes your right but drag racing it's a drivers race more or less. I know being a thirdgen owner you might not like to see that as you seem to have a little bias there. also being a mustang owner shouldn't have any bearing on if he can post here or not.

There were more impressive STIs, WRXs, DSMs, EVOs, and even a few 13 second Hondas at the track last night then mustangs, Fbodies, even the 14 second LS1 Vette...
Someone might not restore them, but some might, you never know!

like my 76 accord if it wasn't so far gone I wouldn't mind taking the time to restore it.
EDIT: didn't you have a whole lot more post then 189 at one point?

Re: Late Night Cummins Run
depends on the car I guess. but generally those that I see being restored are older econoboxes not the newer ones.

Maybe econoboxes is too broad a term.
Maybe 'enthusiast' vehicles is better.
An RX7 for instance, is an enthusiast's car. An altima is not.

That's with the old setup, now I run with a 3000rpm stall 9" 'verter, and slicks...
I've done some mid 14s on street tires on motor, but traction sucks.. I'd still have to spray to beat you...

Re: Late Night Cummins Run
Well the definition of a sports car to me would be a well performing 2 seater car whose primary function is to bring enjoyment to the driving experience.
The definition of an enthusiast car to me would be a car that has a large following of people, who come together for the sole purpose to discuss, modify, race, or just deal with that car.
using MY own deifinitions, any car can be an enthusiast car, whereas a sports car is dictated by the cars design and purpose!

Re: Late Night Cummins Run
wow so many arguments on a board that's just for discussion..
turbo diesels are f*ing mean, my father purchased a 2007 ram big horn, i'm trying to convince him to get one of the power pucks or similar piggy back deals, i think that truck could beat his 70 charger 440. we can't be sure but i'd say from a roll he could take me, from a dig the gta takes off pretty hard and his 1st is too short, 2nd probably as well, short rev range.. look our cars are slowly becoming classic, very few people buy 69's to go out and race the streets anymore, the newer tech just gets em, the same can be said of our cars. we should be proud we still get respect with 15+ yr old cars, based on 25 yr old technology.
show me a 2nd gen with mods from the 70's keep up with a 3rd gen with mods from the 80's, vs an ls1 with half as many mods from today. who wins?

Argumentation is a form of discussion…
No way man, those trucks are dogs in stock form. Modified they have tons of potential to get into the 14s, the opportunity is there to put those heavy trucks in the 11s, 12s, and 13s but its expensive as hell… Stock most are 16.5+ sec ¼ milers…

Re: Late Night Cummins Run
i mean it has the potential, his car isn't geared nor does it have the tires for the 1/4 mile, the 440 is warmed over but it isn't a built car, more of a factory original then anything. it goes up in smoke off the line as well, the suspension on original muscle cars are a joke, then again in a few years they may say that of our own cars
Re: Late Night Cummins Run
a 76 accord shouldn't be an enthusiast car either though

I had a 05 to 07 dually dodge cummings turbo messing with me on the interstate,Not letting me pass, and such. When I got up next to him he was gassing it and I was very impressed with how he stayed with me.I finally got tired of him and put it near the floor to get it to drop down in the passing gear pretty hard at 85 or 90.When i looked down a few seconds later i was doing 130 and he was and he was to headlights way back. With some mods and weight reduction they would be really fast.I`m sure that guy was stock or close and had a top speed limiter.
