Malibu vs. 89'

I have a friend who has a 1998 Malibu LS with the 3.1..... He has headers and has had the whole motor torn down and mildly built. port polish and little things like that... My camaro is undergoing an engine swap this winter (LO3 305 to LO5 350) I'm putting headers, intake and swapping the rear gears to 3.73's plus a shift kit. Should i be able to smoke him? he talks mad ****..... and all i've heard he beat so far is a 2004 V6 Mustang.
