I lined up against one, he wanted to race. Light turned green and I let him have a half second. I heard his tires chirping like FWD cars do when you mash it in 1st gear. I rolled onto it and by the time I hit the top of 1st gear i had reeled him in and put him behind me and I never looked back. I let off at the top of 2nd and I have no idea where he was at that point, but he certainly wasn't close.

All I know is it's an Eclipse GTS. I think it had to be an 03 or 04, did they make a GTS any other years?

In the driver's little mind though, this makes it scary fast and he'll race all comers. He'll tell his friends how he got a killer hole shot on this old V8 muscle car and backed off as you did a "muscle fly by" or some such nonsense. He'll tell everyone he sees how his car can kill V8s and start shopping for a bumper sticker that reads "I 8 A V 8". He'll sleep well tonight thinking he took you down.

You'll sleep even better tonight knowing the truth.

Still, it's just a mid 15 second car.

 

Beat a late 90's gts in my LO3 by about a car, it had some work but nothing major.

Late 90's would be a GST. It's a completely different beast. He's talking of the 3rd gen Eclipse with the V6 not the 2nd with a turbo 4.

The 3rd generation eclipse which looks like this:

Is a V6 front wheel drive grocery getter. It is nothing like the AWD cars of the past. It's probably a low to mid 15 second car.

The 2nd generation eclipse looks like this:

These (and the 1st gens) are the bad boys that most of the guy mod. They can be made pretty quick, but aren't that reliable. The GSX is the turbo AWD model. I'm pretty sure that from the factory the GSX was faster than the GST. It could easily be made way faster with a few mods.

 

The GSX can launch at ridiculous RPM. At the strip it would definitely be faster then the front wheel drive GST, but stock for stock the AWD kills top speed compared to the front drive.

To answer your question: The 2nd gen was rated at 14.9 in the quarter stock. The 3rd gen......well....I don't care so I don't know.

Cheapy mods will drastically reduce that time in a turbo 4g63 application.

 

and even when a rice burner gets you.....just think....they have to fold up like oragami to fit inside, and the styling ques on most of them make them all look ugly as SH*T......jap rides are funny and 75% of them are all HUGE rear spoiler and bondo body kits

 

There is no more room in your thirdgen then there is in a 2G eclipse for the average driver. Its just a lot easier to get in and out if the t-top glass is out.
