86 357 vs older 302 Mustang with 100 shot
Well, another guy on campus saw me drive my camaro into the parking lot today, and said he wanted to race me once he did a few things to his car, mainly he was going to add a 100 shot of nitrous.
Wondering how close this race would be.
My specs
1986 Camaro
350 bored .40 over
9.5:1 Compression
No detonation running WOT w/ 89 oct gas
Stock TPI Intake
Lunati Voodoo 60101
-213/219 Dur. @.050
-.452/.468 lift
-256/262 total Dur.
Dart Iron Eagle SS Heads
-1.94/1.5 valves
-undercut stems
-swirl polished
-Comp Pro Mag 1.52 roller rockers
MSD coil in cap
MSD Super Conductors
Hedmann Headers & Y-pipe
No cat
Flowmaster 80
HD Torque Converter
-stock stall speed (1400 rpms)
700r-4 built to handle 400 HP
3.23 Posi Rear
His specs
All I know so far:
302 Mustang
cat-back exhaust
100 shot nitrous
Just wondering what you thought.
DDyno put me @ or a little above 300-310 HP/415-420 TQ
I think stock 302's are around 210HP Not nearly as much TQ but with that 100 shot, what is he looking at??
Also, if I were to do a race, would it be better to go from a 15mph or so roll since I can't get traction to save my life. Or is dead stop better since i've got torque out my a$$?

A stock 302 should be 190-200 to the tires. Then a 100 shot and your talking 260-300 and the tq should be mid to high 300's. You down low, him walking by or evening it up on top.

I agree with what others said. I'm curious though, why the stock torque converter?

Re: 86 357 vs older 302 Mustang with 100 shot
It's my daily driver. So I like to keep very good street manners. The 60101 cam makes power at 1000 rpms so a stock stall speed is fine for daily driving. A higher stall just heats up the tranny and lowers it life at the speeds that I drive. I usually drive at or below 25.
Looking at the stock 302, i keep seeing 210-220 at the crank. So wouldn't that be 180-190 at the wheels?
Also would it be better to go from a roll or deadstop?

About 190 at the wheels bone stock. My dads 91 with a catback and pulleys made 212/276 to the tires. On a 100 shot even a stock should be close to 300 whp, and mid to upper 300s tq. Not to mention being lighter, a 270-300 whp fox body is a 12 second car with a decent driver.

I don't think it's a foxbody, it actually looks like a thunderbird? He said it was a mustang, but I finally saw it today as he was driving away. Saw a quick sideshot and it looked like a thunderbird, long and weird looking. Didn't look anything like a foxbody.

arnt 79-92/93 mustangs all considered fox bodys?, could be he would race with a different car or he might just not know the difference and actually have a t-bird/cougar they both had 5.0's in them
