C5 Corvette
So My Uncle's son inlaw recently Bought this C5 Corvette. I rode in this car and it is scary fast. It is Definetly a 200mph + car. It really made me think of if a third gen can get close to that kind of speed and power.
Its Stats/mods
-LS6 Swap
-T56
-AFR Heads
-FAST Intake
-Solid Roller Cam of unknown lift and Duration
-Stainless Steel Headers
-Catalytic Converter Delete
-Professionally Tuned
-ZR1 wheels
-Cross drilled and slotted Rotors
My Question Is how many Third Gens on here can beat this Beast in a street race from a standing start? I'm Interested in seeing what kind of speed we have on this Forum.

At least your honest. I'll be first to say it's fast real fast. Only those how bring some highly moddified third gens would beat this thing. I for one would like to see those third gens.

Looks to be a 500hp car...
Easy fix - stick the same motor in a thirdgen with some nitrous.

Re: C5 Corvette
I don't see why anyone is freaking out about this. Maybe no one realizes how much of an awesome car the Third Gens really were, and still are.
"The Trans Am drag coefficient was measured at 0.32 but was as low as 0.29 with the standard Aero wheels"
"The 62-degree windshield produced one of the lowest drag coefficient readings ever measured by GM"
"'85 IROC boasts a very slippery 0.34 drag coefficient"
Sources.. Chevyhiperformance.com, Chevy-Camaro.com, and of course, Wikipedia!
Third Gens would easily kill a C5 Corvette, if you were to sacrifice creature comforts such as air conditioning, carpet, all of the sound proofing. Less weight would even out the C5's drag coefficient of .29. Then again, that's why Corvettes are Corvettes, and Camaros are Camaros, it's far from even with stock vs. stock, but our cars are a heck of a lot cheaper.
C5's have always been one of my favorite cars. It'll be time to start saving up all over again, to get one, once my Camaro is painted, T-56 is swapped in.

That's such a ***** thing to say
Strip the car to nothing....then what's the point of having a well-optioned car only to strip it out? There's a huge reason why 'vettes are more expensive then it's Fbody cousin....huge reason...the quality is about 1000000000000000000000000000000000000x better.

EDIT: Nevermind, I may as well not even talk about weight reduction. You might not catch on anyway.

Re: C5 Corvette
My reading comprehension is perfect. You're saying a 3rdgen would kill a C5 if you stripped the AC, sound deadening, CARPET, etc.....what's the point?
Yay for driving a car with no interior,. My buddy has a high 11 second Camaro....NO anything in the car....no interior aside from a seat, no radio, no AC, no power steering. Basically a shell with a motor, trans, rear and a seat.
No thanks, I'll take my car that's slightly slower that has every creature comfort it came with and actually enjoy the car on a nice day or drive it 200 miles.
To each their own, I wasn't attacking you either so I'm not sure why you're getting all huffy. It's just the ***** thing to say "well if our cars didn't have this, that and the other it'd kill X car", or "but ours costs less" I guess carpet and other interior components aren't important?
3rdgens were awesome cars back in the day, and they still are but by today's standards they're dinosaurs. They're slow, have no technology and most get beat by family sedans. Sorry for being honest and living in reality. That's not to say I don't love my car, hell my previous car was a C5.
But lets call a spade a spade here.
BTW, since you edited your original post yet I still saw what you typed...you DON'T have to sacrifice options and amenities to keep up with a 'vette...you just need to know how to build a motor(not saying you specifically). Again to each their own but a gutted 11 second car with nothing in gets a lot less respect from me other people than an 11 second car with AC, radio, full interior etc. There's nothing wrong with gutting a car but it blurs the line of what a street car is IMO. My buddy insists that his clapped out, gutted Camaro is a full street car...and while he's legal to drive on the street it's not really a street car to me. He couldn't really drive it more than a few miles. Anyway, I'm getting off topic. You don't have to get rid of AC, sound deadening or anything else to keep up with a 'vette. Does it make it slightly easier? Sure, you even said it yourself in the post you edited that you have a target weight. That's great. If you feel that's what you need to do then do it.
You just don't NEED to make those sacrifices.

.... and here is Banks' 3rd gen Trans Am going way over that....;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krEp5grhYlk
.... so, as you can see, the third gen platform has already been taken to speeds well beyond what that Corvette is capable of, but none of us build our cars to do that though, that is very dangerous on the street. If all of us lived near the Texas mile, then that would be a different story.
