The other a.m. I was on my way home after dropping off my fiance'. I was on the road doing the speed limit & I had noticed this red car behind me. I didn't really pay it much attention & ultimately I found myself in the right lane after ending up behind some slow truck.

I end up at the red light & the red car pulls up next to me. I've got my music up abit, not really paying anyone much attention & I'm about 3 mins from my house. I see the light turn green & I don't give it much gas. All of a sudden I hear the red car peel up, I looked to my left to see the car's driver & I saw the Supra sign. & I hear the turbo inside of it. He wanted a pull, so I got up on him. As soon as I realized what happened I hit my gas & my torque just launched my butt! I was up next to him & I shifted out of overdrive. I was next to him & he was trying to pull from me but couldn't. I was just about to pass him as he made an abrupt left turn into a Toyota dealership. Dang!

Those Supra's are fast, I know they are. Has anyone else taken on a Supra & won or lost?

 

I raced one about a year ago, not long after I had my car tuned. We only raced to 80 mph and his front end was at my window with the turbo's whistling in my year and the blow off valve going off.
It was very similar to what you have experienced. My torque pushed me about 1/2 a fender ahead, after he had a start on me, and then it stayed that way through second, third, and we let off after I shifted into 4th. We were getting up to traffic so it was a short race.

Yea there are a few quick-off-the-line turbos here, some have upgraded to bigger units or complete forged street // strip set ups.

 

I got beat pretty bad by a Supra last summer on the highway, but that was with the 700R4 (4th gear lockout at WOT), and being n/a. I think I'd give it a much better run today....

yeah supras aren't cars you wanna mess with, most of them will eat a thirdgen with a 350 for breakfast

 

I can also think of plenty of 3rd gens on this board that can eat most Supras for breakfast. Just because it is a supra, doesn't mean it is the fastest thing on the road. Yes, there are some fast Supras, but I also think that many people watch too many you tube videos.
Stock for stock Mark 2 supras are not much faster than suitably equipped third gens, and Mark 3 supras are not much faster than suitably equipped 4th gens.
