71, 86 Mustangs vs my 86 Bird

I was wondering if my 1986 pontiac firbird could beat the following:
1971 Mustang: 4bbl carbed 302ci with ford 9 inch rear and 5 speed manual
1986 Mustang GT: turbocharged fuel injected 302ci with 9 inch rear and
5 speed as well

my car:
1986 Pontiac Firebird: 4bbl 305 auto completely stock with 10 bolt rear
would i destroy them with a 400hp 350 engine

The amount of info on both cars is overwhelming....

Based on the info you provided you lose to both, badly.

Re: 71, 86 Mustangs vs my 86 Bird

Well I was actually thinking that I should be able to beat the 71 mustang since mine is a 305 and his a 302. My car also weighs like 500lbs less than his. But I agree that the 86 mustang will kill me especially since it is turbocharged.

So you think your car will win because your motor has 3 more cubic inches....really??

My car also weighs like 500lbs less and is automatic
previously thought that stick was faster but it was proven on mythbusters that auto is faster!

Re: 71, 86 Mustangs vs my 86 Bird

What's done to the 302? You know that's not the factory motor right for the '71 right? There are too many unknowns about the '71.

To sit there and think you're going to win because your car is a bit lighter and has 3 more cubic inches is absolutely ridiculous.

No offense is meant by this statement but your car isn't fast....at all. You'd really need to know what that 302 is out of and what's done to it before being so confident.

Relax fly... A LOT of people judge a car simply by the size of the engine. Let him find out the hard way.

I'm perfectly relaxed, lol. I'm just trying to educate him a little so he doesn't go in cocky and come out depressed.

Re: 71, 86 Mustangs vs my 86 Bird

I'm sorry to tell you this MikeSammy, but your stock carbed 305 is a 160hp slug.
That 71 may well be putting out 300hp, and that GT could be putting out anything from 200hp to 600hp. Hard to know really.
You're going to get spanked by both. Automatic or otherwise.

Re: 71, 86 Mustangs vs my 86 Bird

Yeah I guess your right and I would like to thank fly89gta because I really was cocky that I would win but your all right. The Mustang gt puts out around 440hp and the 71 puts out 290hp. I cant believe how weak my 305 is. Time to put that 383 in now I guess lol!
