83 Camaro Vs. 99 Civic
83 Camaro Vs. 99 Civic
Ok I have been all over the net looking for some where to ask this and this place seems like the best so far. So heres the details. I have a 305 83 camaro with a racing cam, hi performance intake manifold, holley 850 double pumper carb with headers, and a 3500 hole shot converter*oh and 80-100hp nos kit for it*. Some other minor things but that covers the costly things I have done.
Now the Civic is a 99 and has a turbo on it that runs 15lbs all the time. I dont know much about Civics or Hondas in general but I just want to know if I could beat it or have a chance, or if people could give me advice on what I need to win against it. So let me know please.

Are you going heads up or is he giving you a couple?
Good luck

Re: 83 Camaro Vs. 99 Civic
that carb is way to big for a pretty much stock 305. i have a decent built 355 and 650 is whats recommended for that. in my opinion, i dont think you have a chance against a turbod honda. even if its the base model 4 cyl. you might have the torque off the start, but as soon as he makes boost hes going to be ahead. hope im wrong on this because i hate to see a fellow 3rd gen lose. good luck

That carb is way too big for a 305 unless you are making power at 8000RPM. I'm not sure what a racing camshaft is either. Do you know what grind it is?
Re: 83 Camaro Vs. 99 Civic
Well we pulled the camaro in to the garage I still have yet to finalize everything. What carb do you guys suggest be the best for the 305? Im just now getting in to engine stuff. I use to only be interior work and wiring. Im going by this people have tried helping me and telling me to get. I need some suggestions.
To answer some questions.
@Wadebryant- He said he would give me 2 cars on a 30 roll but he wont race me from trans stop because the converter.
@Project-RS- Can you give me any advice or share some pointers with me by chance? I mean I really need help making this a good car its just me doing the whole thing and I dont want to drop everything back in and have to redo the process because I did it horribly wrong. any help is welcome.
@Doom86- Grind? Is that something to do with the lift or ratio of something. Imma lost when you start talking expert on me sorry. Like I said I use to do custom interior and wiring for cars not so big on much else.
any feed back is welcome thanks!

Real racing is heads up. Wether that be from a stop or a roll, everyone leaves at the same time. If he really thinks he'll be 2 cars ahead of you by 30, then taking you from a stop shouldnt be hard. 30 is still first gear.
Grind is your cam specs. You say you have a racing cam but that means nothing. We are looking for the actuall specs on your cam. For instance, I have a solid roller cam with 236 degrees duration at .050" with .550 lift on a 110 LSA. If you have your cam card still it will give you numbers like this, although probably smaller. Also, what intake?
On a 305 with what is probably a mild cam, I wouldnt go bigger than a 600 cfm carb. I'm pushing near 500 horse and only have a 650.
In the end though, I think he will take you. I use to have a 96 firebird V6 which didnt have much less power than you (actually it may have been more). I got wooped by some kid eating cheetos in his turbo CRX.

Torisuna, do you have any idea what the civic runs at the track? That would be really helpful to determine what you need to do to your car. He could be a 14 second car or a 12 second one.

So what your saying is he could be faster if he had traction? Did he show you a timeslip? If he is in the 12s you might as well save your breath. Your 305 even with a 100 shot most likely wont keep up.

Re: 83 Camaro Vs. 99 Civic
My best friend of 10 years owns a 97 Honda civic with a ls b18 swap as his daily driver. His car has forged eagle rods, forged pistons, new bearings, milled heads and a decked block, type r oil pump, stage 2 cams and various other odds and ends. I helped him build it over a course of a year with a 5000 dollar budget. The car has a hybrid T3/T4 turbo, Log manifold with a tial waste-gate set at 18lbs, Its inter-cooled with approx 2lbs lost through the inter-cooler so its running about 16lbs of boost DD. The civic has very minor transmission work as well as a stage 4 unsprung clutch. It was just dyno-d on a dyno jet over the summer making just over 380 whp. At the track his best run was a 12.89 with slicks. Those cars are fast. If his car truly is a 12 second car there is no way you will win with what you have.
What would help is the type of motor in the car. The 99 civics came stock with a d16. The si's came stock with the b16. I highly doubt the car is stock because those motors wont last anything past 12psi with a stock footprint.
If its a d16 with 15lbs of boost it could be putting out close to 300hp. If its a b16-b18 it could be putting out safely anywhere from 350-450hp and up if it has a tremendous amount of work.
