what will a 2500 & up stall converter do for me in a race?
I never dealt with changing torque converters first hand. does it change the actual ratio of the flywheel to transmission input shaft? or is it more for launches? i.e. will a 3000 stall wind up off the line, take off at 3000? does it do this in all gears? if so,is it practical for a daily driven car? I'd just like to have a little fun now and then, not race every night like I used to.

A higher stall convertor will do many things. It will launch at a higher engine speed. This should be tailored to your torque power band. If your motor starts making good torque at 2400 then that is your ideal stall. torque is a multiple of horsepower times engine RPM. Some run a 4000 or higher convertor to put it in thier power range. It all depends on your motor and vehicle weight. A convertor for a 3400 lb car might be a 3000 stall but when put in a 2400 lb car it may be 2600 stall. Convertors multiply torque or let you make the best use of it. You won't be crusing down the freeway at 1500 RPM with a small convertor.
