Got smoked by...

Alright this car is really startin to get on my nerves. Took it to the track Friday and the best I could pull was a 14.9 @ 94mph. Got smoked by a 92 Z (twice), a Malibu with slicks and dual quads, a turbo Eclipse, a 69 Camaro SS that went sideways after the 1-2 and 2-3 shift , an LT1 Z28, a brand new Camaro SS, and a few more I can't remember. I'm still in awe that I've dumped almost $1000 into this car and I'm still not even close to stock 5.0 times!

NOS. In this month's car craft they were complaining that their 350 Firebird project was not fast enough, so they installed NOS. There is a whole write up on it and it took around 1.5 seconds off the birds time. Dont feel bad, with NOS their Firebird still runs like 14.2.

That sounds like a decent time realy.
I cant see why you were beat by all of the above cars though. The only reason I can think of for loosing is your reaction time is way down. Practice makes perfect

are you going up in smoke? the name of the game is traction and if you are lacking in that department then your not going to run the number. if your only running 94 mph sounds to me like your not making that much horsepower. it's funny how you can run (for instance) a 13 sec quarter and your speed is 120 mph. well at 120 mph you should be in the 11 second range. try tuning your current combo and try to be patient. i know it's hard but once you make a run you have to tell your self o.k. this is what the car did now what can i do to make it better. did you hit your shift points, did traction suck more than usual, how did the car leave the line? all of these things and alot more need to be looked at. time and patients, you will like the reward. it took me a while to run 10 seconds but now my car will do it all day.stop adding horsepower and get that bird to hook. smoking the tires is just for showing off, i'm more impressed with pulling the front wheels off the ground.

Yea check your 60fts. Those mods definately should get you in the mid 14's. ****, mid 14's for breakfast stock. My friend has the same exact car as you, no MAF screens, K&N, Advanced Timing, and catback. He is so close to beating me, he gets me off the line but I come back and pull a tiny bit enough to beat him. Um, if you don't get a 2.0 60ft then thats why your times suck. Check your timing...https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tpimod1.shtml

His car is same color and everything w/t-tops. What kind of spark plugs are you running? And 14.8 @ 93mph is good for stock 5.0 times. Keep your timing no higher than 8 BTC and no less than 6 BTC. Always get 93 Octane. Were you running with a full tank of gas or what? Did you manually shift? I bet your 60ft times sucked (as mine did) and thats why.

A tenth in your 60fts are two in the 1/4

@ 94 MPH you should be running 14.5- 14.3s with the 3.27 gears. I would be running 13.8 -13.7s with 3.27s. It does look like you are having traction problems. You should not have anything more than a 2.10 60ft. I bet you are running 2.25-2.40 60ft times. With the mods that you have you should be a lot closer to the times that I am running.

What RPM are you shifting at? 5000-5300 RPM is the most you need to take a stock TPI to. Some people try to take a stock TPI up to 6000 RPM before shifting -killing E.T. & MPH.
