my coworker has a 97 or so jetta with 1.8 four banger. He's got a chip, excaust, and intake. He was talking trash one day about how he'd burn me. That day I was on the highway going about 75, and I see the jetta in the rearview. He pulled up next to me, gave me the nod, and away we go. I pulled about a car lenghth, and kept on pulling all the way till my speed limiter kicked in at about 115-120. After that he kept on going, and I was really pissed.!! Later that day he said he hit 135. If I only had the chip, my car had a lot left, and I could have taken the win. I was turning about 3000-3500 rpm when the speed limiter kicked in, so I definately had some more. I was never a fan of top speed races anyway. Anyway, of course I had to hear him talk trash for the next couple of days about how his car was the ****. So I told him my car ain't really built for top speed, and a true race is off the line. He agreed to it, but we haven't done it yet, and I know I'll kill him, what do you guys think. Anyone know the horse power and torque of his car (approximate). And no comments about putting other people in danger, there was no one on the road at all, and yes I can take responsibility for my actions.

 

you could put a switch in line with the VSS and just turn it off next time he decides to play. i think you prolly proved your point by pulling him when you first hit it.
if not, just tell the kid to get to a track, it proves all points with a little piece of paper

Look, my buddy own a jetta along with his 84 Z28. He told me the day he got it it's a dog. Nuttin to it at all. All it's got is a good computer controlled tranny. Shifts right when you want it to, and does what you want it to. This is of course a 96 but I don't think that VW did that much to it. If it's not one of their prize vr6's it's probbaly just poop!
