Underdrive pulleys?

Underdrive pulleys?
Are these things worth the money? I just got my car yesterday(see sig) My cuz said that underdrive pulleys will help me alot. He also said I should remove that huge square smog pump, but that I need to run a different belt setup to take it off. I have looked in JEGS magazines, and I noticed there are two different kinds of pulley kits available to my kind of car.. which one should I get if I want to remove that smog pump? And will they help much?
