Finally!!
Finally!!
I finally got a car!! It's a 91 RS with a 305 and automatic tranny. It has 114k miles but still runs very strong. The car sounds deeper than most 305's Ive heard though.. I think maybe there is an aftermarket exhaust on it. It is very good condition, with only a few small dings and scratches on the exterior. The interior is very nice too, a small tear in the driver's seat and the corner of the dash on the passenger side is cracked a little. I gave $2800 for the car and I think it was well worth it. I want this baby to beat stock and mild 5.0 Stangs. I was thinking first I should get an intake, headers, and maybe an aftermarket chip. Then later, when I got the money saved, maybe get some heads and a cam, and maybe a bigger throttle body. Has anyone tried the new S/R Torquer 305 heads? They are more expensive than Vortec heads. If I get Vortec heads for a 305, do I have to get the drilled and tapped ones? I know I will need a different intake if I go with Vortec. Also, I would like to have somewhere around 300-350 HP. What size cam should I use? Thanks in advance!

Good buy. Now on the the more power thing. For the money, the Vortec heads will do wonders. But if you get up in lift, over .460 mark, then that's where more money on the heads will be needed.
I personally like the 305 S/R Torquer heads. they will offer a better setup, and come with all the additions a good set of Vortecs should be.
Next is intake and chip. Check the exhaustt. Chances are someone has already added a catback exhaust.
The options are endless, as well as the money's limits. You can spend alot of money on the 305, or just get a 350, and slowly build it up in the garage, and do a weekend swap when your done. That way, no down time.
Either way, good luck and great purchase. You sound very happy.

chevy high performance put together a 305 with a 650 carb and the vortec heads. The cam they used was a 215 duration at .050 and it think it was a .462 lift. The engine made 320 hp at 5400rpm. That's pretty decent. Camaro performers recently put together a TPI 305 with S/R heads and a comp cams. That engine made like 266 hp at 5000rpm and i think 330 torque at 3800 anyway, the 305 can make power, all you need is money. Check out the TBI board (you probably already have)
TPI 305's Can make good power. One of the moderators for the power adder board has his 305tpi camaro with a supercharger running low 12's,he expects to brake into the 11's real soon!

don't go with TPI. Go with either a carb or TBI. You can make good power with a TPI setup, but its all on the bottom end. The carb or TBI with give you even power across the RPM, range not just all on the bottom. Plus the TPI is way more costly the two other choices. I would recommend sticking with what you have b/c that would be the easiest and cheapest way to go.
