You really wanna know? Save up for either a L98 or a custom sb from chevy like a zz4. That L03 will make you cry after you spend so much money and it will still be SLOW! The RSs werent performance cars, either don't touch it and save for a new 3rd gen 350 or get a 4th gen.

I'm assuming you have an L03. If you want to go fast and stay TBI and 305. you need an intake and a cam at least. The cam will give you the best bang for the buck, the stock one is pathetic to say the least. Airflow is key. The heads are a major restriction as well. You COULD get them ported, but that will run you as much as if you just got new heads. If you do get an intake and a cam, get a 3" catback, get a 3" cat, and Headers(dynomax and headman make some good easy to install headers, I'm not a personal fan of the Edelbrock TES, but I know a lot of people have seen good results with them.) To do all that you're looking at just over a grand in parts. You can do it in stages. If you have a 5spd, I'd recommend a shifter strongly.. the stock one sucks *** .. I haven't had time to change mine yet.. but oh how I wish I had changed it already. A custom chip would work wonders once you get everything done. Oh, and tho it doesn't yeild much power, do a good tune up, Delco plugs, good wires(i'm running Delco wires, but I don't race it either.), change the cap and rotor, the car will run much better and take full advantage of mods if the ignition system is running at it's best(adding an aftermarket ignition isn't a bad idea, but don't expect to see any useful horsepower from it, just improved response.) If you have a manual a shift kit will help the 700R4 out a lot.. but if you ever want crazy power, you'll need to take it out and beef it up(a good torque converter also helps.)

down the road, I'd suggest putting in some bigger(numerically) gears and a limited slip unit.

I know that all seems like A LOT of stuff.. but it's pretty much all the basics. It can be spread out. Just pick which ones you want to do first. an Open Element 14x3" air cleaner will help too.. but it's not emissions legal so keep your stock one around come time for inspection.

------------------
previous ride: 87 Camaro LT
350, A4.Comp Cams 268H, Edelbrock Preformer intake, Hedman Headers and y-pipe, gutted cat, No AIR/smog pump. 14x3" Open element K&N, Q-jet w/ D hanger and DA rods, adjusted AV spring tension and quick can.

Current ride: 1992 Camaro RS, K&N, Flowmaster, 305, T5, Black, T-tops, 76k miles.

True the RS's are slow, but keep the car you have, it still makes an excellent platform for future *** hauling.. the only thing I mentioned you wouldn't be able to use on a new engine was the cam. If you choose to stay TBI(and it's not as horrible as others would have you believe, much better top end than TPI, it's just not a very sought after system, but will easily feed 400hp with some modification.), the intake can stay, just build up a good 350 or whatever and put it where the 305 used to live.

if you are new to the car thing, stay away from engine swaps just yet. You could put a vette engine in, but its not the best engine you oculd get anyways.

If I were you I would get a cat-back exhaust system to start.

------------------
89 camaro 305 tbi, flomaster 3 chamber cat back, gutted cat, Edlebrock TES Headers, Exhaust cutout, Edlebrock open element, 160 degree T-stat, Hurst Dual Gate shifter, Lakeland LCA's, and a Stage 2 FastChip.

2 kicker comp 12"'s, polk for the rest. Phoenix gold xs2300 to subs, kicker impulse 404XI to 4 speakers, pioneer DEH- P7000R head unit, and finally a 12 disc changer. Full leather interior from http://www.MrMikes.com
