88 GTA vs Early to Mid 90's Nissan 300ZX?

Anyone know what a Nissan 300ZX runs, I pulled up beside one the other day and it the guy wanted to race but I was turning the other way at the lights.....looked pretty sporty though. Don't know what year it was, probably early to mid 90's.

I thought they were pretty quick. 13s if I'm not mistaken. There was this site of them and a few were modded heavily running mid 12s so they may even run low 14s. They are quick tho.

Those things are i think 300 HP cars from the factory, only running like 5 psi of boost. I'm guessing thats a mid-14 car. I have no idea how they do with mods, but i know theres lots of room left to up boost pressure. SHould be a good race.

Unless it's the NA version. It should say TT or Turbo or something like that all over it. Otherwise, it's probably a pretty even race looking at your mods.

isnt the only way to tell them apart is looking at the back badge where it tells you something about being turbo charged right under the 300zx sign

I have a grey '90 (N/A A/T) 300ZX sitting next to my 86 T/A in my driveway, and the T/A is probably faster to 50-55mph from a standing start, but the Z builds revs like my 1/2" Black&Decker. It goes from 50 to 90 in the time it takes to spit.

In a race on a theoretical endless dragstrip, the F-body will get out in front first, but around 80-90 mph, the Z-car get away from it.

Spotting Tip: 0n 90-96 Z cars, Turbos are distinguished by intercooler intakes on the corners of the front spoiler, and a small, flat spoiler on the edge of the rear deck. The one 'Twin Turbo' badge is on the tail light panel below said spoiler.

actually i have a 87 gta and just the other night i raced a 300zx we couldnt catch any lights (figures) so after bout 4 miles of so of just sittin there cruising next to each other the guy in the 300zx looks over at me and punches it i gunned it and stayed right with him for bout 1/2 a second then started walkin on him. got to bout a car length an a half then i let off cause we were in the middle of town but i figured it would be alot closer especially since that is my cars biggest weakness is top end since i have stock exhaust and headers

I've beaten a couple of N/A 300Z's in my 86 LG4 Trans Am. I am hoping that with my TPI setup, headers and full 3" exhaust I'll be able to keep up with the Turbo Z's.

He probably wasnt racing, the 91-92 camaro 350s were good for mid to low 14s all day. Even up top he would beat you, maybe he had a full car and some weights in the back
