91 RS vs. 96 STANG???
91 RS vs. 96 STANG???
One of my friends drives a 1996 Mustang. All stock... well as she says... all stock except for the cd player... amp... and the horse on the front grill haha. She wants 2 race me at the track around here when it opens up. I'm getting my transmission rebuilt next weekend. I was wondering two things. Is there anything I should ask for when getting my tranny rebuilt to make it better? And will I beat this mustang or should I not even try it? Thanks in advance!

The '96 mustang V6s are really slow but then again i know nothing about the camaro v6s i've heard the stang v6s are somewhere in the range of 120 horses, my friend drove one for awhile before she totalled it and the car felt like a hyundai, even if you tried to torque break it, it could barely even chirp the tires. Good luck, hope someone else can help you out answering how many horses you got in the v6
Adams, they are not 120 horse... us 2.8's have been putting that out for years... my girlfriends' '95 can spin the tires all day long (with -her- driving, and yes, it's a V6 with -no- mods)... granted they are 205's, but I doubt your friend had anything bigger than that on her car... it's rare for a chick to even know what a tire is... (small exaggeration, but applicable in some situations (in other words, no flame intended)).
When it comes to putting the cars in order, in stock form (I'm talking V6's)... it goes like this...
4th gen 'stangs
4th gen F-body's
3rd gen F-body's
3rd gen 'stangs...
(according to Consumer Reports, others, and me...
)

That is so wrong, you can't just classify four differen't cars like "this is faster than that" and such. My brothers old 99 camaro was equal with a manual mustang with the same size(3.8) engine that my friend owned. Cars come out of the factory different as well. If you get some evidence to back your claims it would help.

rezinn... You've got a point...
I don't know what issue, but it was from this year of Consumer Reports.. they did a study on the newest generation Stangs and Camaro's... I'm pretty sure it was CR anyway...
They said that in the V6 catagory, the stangs turned better, rode smoother and had more power, however the Camaro's had better internal comfort...
The V8's: The stangs handled better and turned better, however the Camaro had much more '*****' and was faster... I believe they were comparing 305's to 4.6's...
My thinking is this... (talking speed) the new V6 stang beats the new V6 camaro, and the new camaro beats out 3rd gen Camaro's, and the 3rd gen camaro's beat out 'equivalent' stangs... Therefore putting them in the order listed...
Also, because my girlfriend -owns- a '95 V6 auto 'Stang, and my other very good friend owns a low miles, great condition 3.1 camaro auto... I believe that I can add a bit of my own personal opinion to this post...
And for those of you who noticed the odd paradox between my girlfriend and I, yes, I was very shocked/upset/disturbed to find out she was buying a Mustang. However (:hides
I have come to respect and even like them as fairly decent cars... I just like Camaro's and Firebirds alot better...
Finally, I'd like to correct myself, the new 'Stangs are not in their 4th gen, rather 5th, or 7th, depending on how you look at it...

Xenodrgn:
I think you are wrong.. My GF has a 99 mustang, v6, stock automatic. Her dad has a 98 firebird, v6, stock automatic. I raced her with her dads car and it crushed her stang.. The 4th gens 98 and after got a 210-220 HP V6, while the stangs only got 190.

Nope 200 horsepower for the 3800 Series II V6.
The Stang is a good race for a V6 Camaro.
The Stang handling better than a F-body? Now I know this isn't the case...I drove my friends 2000 Mustang GT, and it didn't even compare to my friends 95 Z28 in the handling department.
As far as the six-banger Stangs handling and turning better than the F-car 6, I can't really imagine this really being true. I would say the f-body would rule (stock-to-stock) handling tests. But I've driven both, and that's just what I've experienced.

I'd say the mustangs going to pull ahead...if not it'll be a close race

Well, you in your RS are putting out 140 stock (less w/ miles), and have 3.23:1 gears. My girlfriend had a 95 mustang which had the 135 hp v-6. Sometime between now and then the power got bumped up. So expect a close race, or a loss, depending on how she drives.
