DRL's revisited

Ok, I finally got everything worked out for the DRL circuit that was posted last week. To the guys that wanted it but didnt like the schematic, just wanted to let yall know that I would be glad to make one for you, just pay for the parts and I'll put it togethter and send it to you. Installation was a snap, right now the board is just taped to the under dash panel, but Im trying to find some kind of box to put it in to protect it. Im still trying to get the hazards working again, I cant seem to find the wires from the switch. Other than that, simply cut two wires to connect the two from the board, splice one here, ground one there, and your done. piece of cake. but really, if anyone would like to have one, let me know.

on another note, has anyone added theater lighting to their car? Im considering adding some small red neons up in the top of the footwells to add some light at night, and was just curious if anyone else has done something like this.

one more thing, is there anything short of repainting that I can do to decrease the obviuosness of my hood needing clear coat? Ive buffed and waxed it but that only seems to last for a few days at best. could that be from having to leave my car outside all day? I tried this stuff that was actually made for fiberglass boats that was a cleaner, wax, and polish, (all separate steps of course) that worked pretty good, but like I said it only lasted for a few days to a week.

thanks, and sorry for typing so much, it just seems to flow out

Yeah, the previous owner added purple neon above the passenger side footwell. It looks really good IMO, and I also have Purple under my car as well.

I might be interested what kind of price are we talking? And you mentioned cut and spice here and there. How much cutting and splicing are we talking about.

as far as cutting and splicing goes, its just 2 wires for the turn signals, and one wire for power, thats it. As far as a price, I'd say the price of parts plus like 5 bucks for shipping or something, dont really know yet. I definately need to find a box to put the board in becuase something just messed up with mine and the right light just cut out last night so I disconnected the for now until I can find whats wrong. I'll keep everyone updated.

joBryan, I checked at RadioShack and of the boxes they had in stock, none of them were the right size. I'll try and go back tomorrow and look through their catalog to see if any will work.

Dewey, here you go, one of the other guys posted them on his page.

joBryan, I used a 2-1/2" by 3-1/4" (I think, trying to go from memory) board to put the stuff on, and the only box that was close that RadioShack had in the store was like 2" X 2-1/2" or something like that, the larger ones were both to wide and to long. Im going after school tomorrow to check their catalog. let me know if you find anything.

did anybody but me try Willie's parking light mod? taking out the lenz and light "diffuser" and replacing it w/ plexiglass?

here's a pic with them on. BTW this DRL thing should seriously be daytime only because they are too bright for nighttime.

this was taken about 45 minutes before it got dark, and already you can see a glare.

yep, still working on it, its just going a little slower now. I think I just found a box that will work, but Im still working the bugs out of the board itself. I think I might have gotten one or two of the transistors wired in backwards in my haste becuase only the left blinker works, atleast before I disconnected it. Im going to pull it out of the car and figure out the problem this weekend. I'll keep everyone updated. sorry again about taking so long, its kinda hard to work on these things with school every day

Hey slowcamaro, is that last pic you posted of your car only with the mod that Willie did with the plexiglass? Or did you also do the DRL mod? Those lights are really bright, I like them a lot!
Thanks, Ted

both. jza, why did you go back? bad results?

I really had to take my time to get em' just right. but they make the front end pop out @ you, because they look so chromey.

I am thinking about buying clear bulbs, just to see how it looks. and if I don't like how it looks, I'll slap the amber bulbs back in.

I went back basically because I didn't do the greatest job making them in the first place. I think the same thing could be accomplished just by removing the diffuser from inside the lens, if there was just a good way to seperate the lens from the housing without damaging either. I'll probably make another go at it when my new lenses bite the dust (which they're close to doing because the body shop cracked both of them when I had the car painted, bastards). They really did look good clear.
