Oh my gawd... what a shoc, stock for stock, my 305 is only 2 tenths of a second slower than a mid 90's lb9. Gee, i'm so shocked. And with headers, and ignition, 3 inch exhaust, 3.45 gears, and a manual, i beat him. And, as i mentioned, his car was stock. and slowv8camaro was there with me at the time. They are not that fast, and unknown_host, just because your 3rdgen sucks, doesn't mean the rest of ours do. I always keep my car in proper tune, and baby it. And as the mustang owner so thoughtfully pointed out, they are not that fast.
They are better built, but they, too need mods to be capable of running respectable times. And I never said i was capable of beating an LS1. I know better than that.

If a 4th gen kill includes V-6 models, I beat an early 3.4 V-6 4th gen about 6 years ago with a lightly modified '92 Grand Prix SE w/3.1 V-6.

I've spanked quite a few LT1's and LS1's none of them were modded too much other than cheap stupid **** (ported MAF !CATS all the usual crap that people do for next to nothing that get them a couple tenths).

Oh really? Ever read GMHTP? go get the latest issue. Brand new bone stock 2001 SS weighing 3800 lbs. in 91 degree heat ran a best of 12.96. They also state they got a 99 Z28 weighing 3500 or something like that in like 59 degreee or around there to run a 12.89.

------------------
I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames,
T-56 almost ready to go in, TPI swap coming up

Wifes new car:

95Z28, AT, leather, T-tops bone stock for now.

future mods:
header to tailpipe replacement and a cold air intake. Then I am just going to leave it alone

I dont know if my track (union grove wisc) is a slow track but I had to throw that in.

this is true, the same for l98's tho. people will admit that only freak ls1's break 13's yet they wont back down on the l98 being a mid to high 14 second car.

i am gettin way bored with this post so i will post one more time. first of all, my "p.o.s" camaro is in the middle of a 350HO swap. you need to grow up and realize that if anything, especially our earlier cars lack on the engine side. seeing how we both have 82's, i am wondering where you are pulling this "my car sucks" fact from. also, thanks to the fellow engine swappers who have stepped forward to back me up. is it a coincidence that the people who think most thirdgen power plants are weak have swapped theirs out and felt real power? i am not saying that thirdgens suck utterly, in their day they gave mustangs hell. but saying that thirdgens run with 4th gens is just kidding yourself, and the l98 has problems with this task. as there are freak 4th gens in the 12's stock, there are freak l98's in the low 14's high 13's stock. by the same token though, the majority of 4th gens are in the high 13's and the majority of l98's are in the high to mid 14's. i see too many l98ers dissapointed for running mid to high 14's in the 1/4 mile with mods, because your car ran low to mid 14's from the factory 11 years ago doesnt mean time didnt take a toll. also, i am talking about beating 4thgens, i never mentioned auto 4th gens. i have seen that spring up later on in the posts, auto vs auto, stick vs stick is what i was basing my judgements on. thanks for the debate, when it turns to mud slinging i try to end it, good luck to all.
later

I Raced quite a few 4th gens. None were newer than a 96 though, and all were LT1 autos, Never lost to any of them The closest was a 96Z took till 80 to start pulling away, but by 90 there was some breathing room.

Never raced an LS1, and the only vette i raced on the street looked as if it escaped from the junkyard.

Needless to say, not too impressed with Lt1's if they couldn't hang with a dead....Lg4

And No it was not stock. The only original parts of the drivetrain were the electric cooling fan, the carb, distributor, and a dead stock computer little smoked motor, trans, and rear as well as suspension were all modified

I doubt i will have any problem with Any but the most modded LT1, meaning blown Or NOS, or larege type cam come a few weeks

I'm just going to throw this last comment out.... my name is misleading.. i used to have an 82, now i have an 89.... there's a huge difference....

Jon
And, that is true, i can beat auto LT1's with my stick LB9, but i don't think a stick gives me an advantage, since he has a 45 cubic inch advantage.

I might agree with a totally factory LS1 running 12's as I haven't seen any either....yet, but I hit the 12's with only the minor mods listed in my sig, so I'd say I'm very close to stock. Also I had a 96 TA auto that was totally stock with 25,000 miles on it and I ran a 14.27 in 90+ degree august heat, so I think if the conditions are right you can get a 13 out of a stock LT1.

My B4C has a 305/5spd, look in my sig for the mods, it runs 14.1 and I have beaten a few stock LT1 cars in it. Most will walk me from 3rd gear, but from a stop I can pull on them in 1st and 2nd. There are a few stock LT1s that run slower then 14.1 - you'll know, so it is possible for a 305 to beat them.
As far as LS1 cars, I have smoked a couple of C5 vettes in my 67 from a 60mph roll on the freeway - and put about 5 cars on them
That was sweet!
