My most memorable loss on the street...

This one was right after I just got the new engine together...I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Richmond, VA area, but my girlfriend and I were on Rt. 288 headed away from the interstate when up ahead I saw a white Dodge Challenger with some pretty fat tires out back so I sped up a little to check it out. As we pulled up beside this beast the famous hood scoop with the "426 Hemi" badge on it caught my eye. I looked over at him and gave him a wave as I dropped down into drive and he waved back then we both floored it. I'll be damned if the trans won't downshift into second at 65 mph and I was nothing but a sitting duck. Not that it would have made much of a difference, but I was stuck at the bottom of 3rd gear as I watched that beautiful Challenger laying two black strips on the road as it pulled 747 lenghts (no, not car lengths and not buslenghts!) on me. "Wow!" Is all Amelia and I could say. About two weeks later, I was fortunate enough to see him at the cruise-in down here on Rt. 10 and asked him if he remembered me and he said yea and we talked. He told me that it ran 11.40's @ 126 mph and that no it wasn't stock then he asked all about my car and told me he thought the 5.0 Mustangs were really cool and how he thinks they'll be the hot collector's item in 30 years. He was really a cool guy and I'm honored to have been spanked by such an amazing car.

Here is one for you Nic.

I finally found the vacuum leak on my car and my wife bought me a MSD 6AL for me for my birthday too. So I installed it and wanted to go to the track and see what my times would be. Last time I got a 14.10 @ 97.
So took the wife and we went.
When I get to the track there are not too many people there, YEA! So I line up and talk to the wife tell her where to go (in the stands, hehe) and get ready.
So I can't see who I'm going to line up against just cause the track is messed up and the officals are moving cars around so I wait. I get to the burnout box and look over and there is a mustang (don't know the year but I think 89 or earily 90's). I think cool classic match up.
Well I burn up the tires and move to the line and I OVER SHOOT IT! DUH!!! I just wasn't paying attention. So I back up and get the light and stage all at once. Now it is a rush to get the car out of reverse and into drive but I just pulled it down and it went into OD!!! The light is moving down and I fumble toget it into drive then I have a manual lockup switch for the convertor and I'm trying to flip that, got it! And the light hits the third stage light and I hit the gas!
Well I still got out the box first too!
So I have the lead and by the half way point I look over and I have a 2 car length lead. I thought yea I got him, then he starts to pull on me and at the finish it is a photo finish!!
Well he got me by 0.002 seconds, hehe. But I think he sprayed me but I didn't get a chance to talk to him cause some friends came and I lost track of him.
Oh well, it was fun and next pass for me I did a tenth better.
You live and learn.

My most memorable loss...would have to be when I lossed to a Mustang LX 5.0 5-speed. Not a surprising loss considering all I was driving was a '92 Grand Prix SE w/ slightly modded 3.1 V-6, though I did get the jump every time for the 4 times we went at it. What made it memorable was that everytime we raced, he overspun at the start, then ground the gears going into 2nd. I know it's bad to laugh at a rookie driver, but it was all I had going for me at the time.

This will be a lot farther back than most of you remember.

In the early 70's (19s not 18s), I was living in Lawton, Oklahoma. Fort Sill was right next to the city and a lot of GIs would go into town and buy a strong muscle car and a couple of months later it would be on a used car lot when they couldn't make the payments or had to go overseas.

I had recently "earned" my driver's license and had a "fairly" good running car. A 1963 Falcon Futura, 289 bored .030, port and polished hi-po heads, lumpy cam, etc. (still needed more to make a really good combo but it was fast enough for me).

There was a particular used car lot that ALWAYS had great muscle cars-you name it, they had it at one time or another- anyway, there was a custom painted '69 BOSS 429 Mustang (looked it over several times, tunnel-ram, 2-4s, headers, etc., etc.) that would be on the lot a few days and would then show up on the street. Then in a few months would be back on the lot. It was always priced WAYYYY to high at around $4,500. lol.

I was cruising the main drag (so to speak) and this very BOSS pulls next to me at a light and throws a rev or two.

I knew I couldn't compete but I was 16 and decided to give it a whirl.

Light turns green and I'm off and running. No Mustang. This is good.

Look in my mirror and all I see is smoke.

Look forward to watch for traffic and all I hear is a RRRUUMMM coming up behind me.

Look over and he has completely blown by me, still smoking the tires.

I remember it as if it was yesterday.

And true to form, a couple of months later it was back on the used car lot.

Guess I'll go ahead and share mine. This was before my gears and exhaust upgrade, but it sill wouldn't have mattered. I was going to my gf's house and I saw this blue early 90's Mustang pull out on the road with a 5"cowl induct hood wide a$$ tires and skinnies up front, with a crap load of stickers on his hatchback wich looked $hitty. I knew there was a light coming up and there were no cars in front of us. I was like please don't turn red, oh crap it just turned red. So we both pulled up to the light. I wasn't sure whether to gun it or would he even try to race me. So as the light turns green we both ease on the gas. And I guess I just wanted to see how fast his car was I stepped on it and once he heard that he did too. He was gone and I was absolutely murdered. I latered heard that he was running in the 11 sec. range.
