firebird bites the dust :-)

had a run in with a 86 firebird that my friend drives. it is a 305 with a 4bbl carb

we started at a stand still and he had a good launch with his auto tranny and I was stuck spinning the tires (damn IRS does not help) we by the end of first gear though we were even. by the time I hit third at 65 or so he was about 2 cars behind me. and I just kept pulling on him. was going to shift into 3rd and looked back and saw that he was about 5-6 cars behind me and not going anywhere any faster.

whats up I thought these cars would give me a little more of a run then that.

oh well

though this same car I beat I had running up to 140-150 once

why not your guys cars?
geez just cause I have a 80cid motor and run without the juice or turbo (not turbo yet) every picks on me :-).

what are you guys running 0-6, and 1/4
as well as hp/tq
so far my best run was a 14.8 at 93 and a 0-60 of around 6.1. I need more grip though my car just spins the tires on the 0-60 runs
though I do have a few more mods to go then I will be happy
should be hitting 11.x by the end of next year.
and what the LG4 exactly?

The LG4 is a really, really, really crappy carbed 305. It got just about the worst cam ever put in a vehicle, crappy intake, exhaust, blah, blah, blah and it all added up to 145 hp. Whoohoo! <Sarcasm> That with a curb weight of 3400-3600 lbs or so doesn't exactly add up to blistering performance. Most of those are solid 17 second cars. Before anyone flames me for blasting the LG4, I had one, and if you are defending it, you need to get you head examined.

rx7, you have a 2nd gen rx? my buddy has a 93 rx7.. pretty bad a$$.. he hit 10.20 in it the other week.

there are a few turbo IIs down here that are insanely fast. throw about 500-800 bucks in them, and boom. low 12s-high 11s. great car. they just use oil like a freaking lawnmower.. (darn wenkel engines)

My 12A had an oil injector in the carb. Talk about strange...When you start it in cold weather, a pump shoots antifreeze into the rotor housing. You get a nice big cloud of white smoke. Come on RX....port the bastard and be done with it!!!!

in 87 the last year for the lg4 it had 170hp and 250 ft/lbs and 9.3:1 compression not the worst v8 in the thirdgen lineup

too much work to port out the motor
not going to worry about that till I get a turbo setup..
kinda need to fix a few other things though since my tranny is going.
ported 80cid motor running at around 15PSI should put in me the 12.x range or so.

though here is one for nothing can beat displacement. even without a turbo I have been doing decent against cars that are quit a bit bigger then I. your 305 motors are almost 4 times as large as mine yet I run fairly close and my car is mostly stock... all I have is a header, intake, removed 3 cats, and a ported upper intake much for mods.
other then that I am running with 170k on a low torque motor only 138 stock from the fact with 146hp.

When did you run the 14.8?
True porting is a pain, BUT
keep in mind the 13B turbo running stock boost (with 100% compression) only makes 200hp @ flywheel. That is with larger ports than yours and lighter rotors. SO, if you just slap a turbo setup on your motor you wouldnt be reaching full potential. As LG4 vs L03, personaly I would take the LG4 because of ease/cost of modification. RX, keep in mind that these are the "slow" thirdgens, any decent 305tpi should still take ya, dont even think about 350tpi or 4th gen...yet. As far as getting the turbo setup to work well on your motor, good luck. Most of the time it is cheaper/easier to buy a complete turbo II motor w/turbo and swap. I'm guessing that your apex seals could use replacing since the car is an 87. How many miles do you have? Hows your compression? Keep in mind also that MANY thirdgens out there have not been given the love they need and are not running as well as they should. $$/hp gain, you wont find anything better than a good (or even do it yourself) port job. Or you could just spend some serious bank and go 20B!!!
I am the devil
port it!!!
port it!!!
port it!!!

yeah I am sure that a tpi could take my A$$. still would run one just for the fun though
as for slapping on a turbo into my car not what I am looking for. trying to get the jspec TII motor and do the whole turbo swap. also when I do that I will go ahead and port the motor. but in my current N/A state I am not going to put that much hassle into the motor itself.. as for compression I dont know going to test it out tonight prolly. the motor has 171k on it though.

the 14.8 was dont with a 6000 rpms launch with some slipping of the clutch till I was moving.

and no way will I go for a 20B dont have the 20k to do the conversion.

damn I want my turbo motor then I will do some porting and we will see how I do

Yeah, Im kind of kidding about the porting at this point but I guarantee you'd be happy with the results. Those Jspec motors are nice, my buddy replaced his turbo II motor with one. It wasnt easy or fun, but moves fairly well now. I'd bet your compression is less than perfect with those kind of miles. Next time you race on the street do one of those clutch killing launches, and you'd be surprised who you can beat. Just try to keep it from spinning the tires and the r's above 5000. I dont know how many times your clutch will take it, but it'll get you out of the hole like a bat out of hell.

Good luck man!

i wasnt defending anything obviously....... and secondly , i know the lg4 sucks , but as someone else had stated( i forget who it was) there is a guy roaming around the thirdgen boards who has an lg4 dipped into the mid 13s , his name is checkeye i believe , granted my car runs nowheres near mid 13s but i think with a lil more traction and a tune up , i could dip into the mid 14s

It's not an LG4 anymore than is it? It's a modified smallblock chevy. What makes it an LG4 is the crappy cam, the crappy heads, crappy intake, and average carb. I have to agree that I'd rather mod an LG4 than an LO3, because it's easier to throw away the computer on an LG4. That's what I did. Then, I dropped in a 350.
