run with a GTO

well had better luck this time around racing.

ran into a GTO on the freeway again. dont know what year it was all I remember was the headlights were side by side rather then one on top of the other.
we were going about 65 down the freeway side by side and I am like what the hell so I gun a few times to let him know I want a piece (I figured he would waste me though) and downshift into third. this time before we ran. by about 80mph he was his rear was even with my bumper. shifted into 4th gear at around 87 mph and he is about 1 foot further ahead of me. when we hit about 100 I start to inch my way up on him. we both shut down at 115 with his rear was even with my front tire.

damn that was sweet running with a GTO on the freeway. I love those cars.
what do these things run for the most part? any ideas as to what year it was. what do they have in them for a motor.

damn american muscle(74 or older) I will beat one yet

side by side headlights would make it a 68-72, if its taillights were long and regtangular a wrap around the bumper it would be a 70-72 if it had smaller more sqare taillights it would be a 68 or 69, the 68-69 had 400's stock and the 70-72's had stock 400's with optional 455's must have been a stock 400 as if it was a 455 car it would have been gone

Hey,
sounds like you gave him a pretty good run. I thought you'd do pretty good on the highway. Those GTO's are pretty quick. Im with TempesT, I think it was a 400. I know someone who has a 69?/auto that I have been in and its pretty quick, but not amazing. I'll bet you'd fair pretty well against him even from a stop. I'd also bet if you would have kept going, you would have started gaining more. What is the top speed in 87? 'cause I remember my 83 would pull hard until top speed. You gonna take my advice and port the 13B? I only ask because of your sig.

peace

You just have a slow RX7. What is it 1st generation model? Or a NA 2nd generation?

Mr. RX 7 I am an SCCA member and receive Sportscar, the magazine. The first gen RX7s are very popular. These cars can be made to really perform, both horsepower and handling.

Check out these sites.

there are 3 gens of rx-7's
think the first gens are 79-85, second gen from 86-91, then 3rd gen from 93-95

the N/A second gen is the one without the turbo back in 87 they gave some of the rx-7 turbos and bumped the HP up to 180

the one I drive comes stock with 146hp 6-7k rpms and 138 ft/lbs at 3800 rpms

Tom84L69 thank you for the sites

High speed freeway racing usually isn't a GTO's forte. They are likely to have steep rear end gears and no O/D tranny.

He was probably in 3rd gear all the way. And
there were so many engines/tranny/gear combos that GTOs ranged from pretty fast to just okay.

Side by side lights could have been a 64

They ran I blieve low 14's stock and the Tri-Power 389's were pushing 360 Horse. Not sure about the 400's but they were up there.

IROCME WTF? I dont go about bashing your car and also if you want to go about saying a car is gay atleast give reasons rather then just mindless rant.

so what if I dont run with a V8 big deal. hey I have 80cid but I am running 14.8 now mostly stock.

I come here cause I like most of the ppl and they respect me as I respect them and so you go about giving your fellow camaro ppl a nice name just as the can't hack me honda guy

oh well enough **** for now tired grumpy and off to bed

Probably a 64 lemans with gto emblems running a 326 and a 2speed auto. If you only have 146hp you will never run with a GTO on top end. And your car would have to weigh about 1400 pounds to run with one off the line.
