this is kind of a funny kill in a way. it had snowed all day and the roads were covered to the 9's with snow, btw i drive a 82t/a with the only mod being a open K&N filter.. so there i am driving up this road, and i go to stop at this red light, and up pulls beside me what looked to be a brand new cobra stang(latest body change)and he for sure had a exhaust system on her. so he gives me a couple of big revs and looks over at me to show he wants to go, so it turns green, right away we both start spinning, and backends are kicking way out, i lauched her into 2 and was still right sideways, he was behind me still rippin up his tires, by 4th gear and about 60MPH i had him by about 5 car lenghts, with my car still spinnin and backend still kickin way out. i felt quite pround of this race, 1. being that i smoked a new cobra in my old warn out 5.0 and 2nd that i managed to move my car out of the whole that quick with warn out bald tires and a 4 speed stick
gotta love winter driving in these cars :-)

hey nic, if you read the story right i said it was the lastest body change and i FIGURED it was a 2000, didn't know for sure :-)

 

Did I miss something. I'm almost possetive Ford didn't make a '00 Cobra. I've never heard of or seen one, but have friends with '99s and '01s.

 

Early 99 Cobra...hehehehee...Ford kinda goofed on those,eh? Anyways, I think the guy wasn't sure on the year, remember, he's not a mustang freak, so he doesn't know Ford was fixing it's goof in 2000, and didn't make any SVT mustangs that year

The HP wasn't all there. Ford Advertised 320HP, but the cars were actually only pushing maybe 290-300HP. Owners sued ford and Ford initiated a recall to fix them. They discovered the exhaust was restrictive where it passes under the IRS, the cast manifold had too much flashing inside and the computer was programmed "weak"

They fixed the car's exhaust, reprogrammed it a bit more agressively, and replaced the manifold.

Owners were doing before and after dynos and seeing a gain of 20HP or so putting them around 315-320HP finally

Ford cancelled the Cobra for 2000 while it sorted out the problems and fixed the '99s The only Cobra in '00 was the 300 Cobra R's made.

For '01, Ford has done right with the Cobra. MM&FF tested a coupe and convert and ran 13.3 and 13.4 @ 103MPH for both. They also dynoed them and found they were making about 330HP instead rather than the advertised 320HP.

As mustangs go I love fox bodies but i cant stand any of the others. the newer ones are a fad where i live. i would take an LS1 over a new stang' , a 5.0 fox body over a 5.0 z28, and a 5.7 z28 over a 5.0 fox body. thats pretty much the pecking order as i see it.
