88 camaro vs 06 intrepid
I was headed home from work tonight going 45 when some college dudes pulled up flying past me then stopped and pulled off on me. I hit the gas but they were too far ahead and the waited for me at the light.
They revved their engine, I revved mine. Threw it in D tried to find my stock stall and floored it at the light. Fishtailed to the left and just smiled at them until it Hooked. Had em by 2 cars to about 70 threw on my hazards left off the gas and watch them fly by.
92350 tbi from a 92gmc Sierra

DNA motoring headers
Under drive pulley
Magnaflow muffler
I wasn't able to catch them before the official race, so if I can't catch them how am I gonna be able to keep up with lt1s and and ls1s?

The L31 was replaced by the 5.3*L 5300 LM7. The 2002 model year was the final year for the L31 5.7*L small block V-8 whose origins date back to 1955.

The point of this thread was for advice to keep up with the newer engines.
The race wasn't close..also raced a 2007 tribourn sp? Same outcome. Gas isn't cheap and this is a free race. Why keep going and risk a 90 mph ticket in a 45..

a dodge stratus rt is a 2 door 4 seat 5spd 3.5l v6 that is probably much faster then a 06 intrepid full of drunk teenagers.

you didnt ask enough nor look hard enough because a stock lt1 cam and zz4 springs cost next to nothing in the classifieds.

Get some casting numbers off your block and heads. You will have to remove a valve cover to get head numbers.

Re: 88 camaro vs 06 intrepid
I'm gonna call bs because they didnt make Intrepids in 06 so technically this race never happened.
Plus the fact that you only beat it by two car lengths with a 350 is mucho depressing.
Did it have any badges on it? Because that would help determine the motor they had unless of course its a sleeper!!!!

instant 12 sec car:
untouched 083's with valve guide clearancing and some decent valve springs
performer rpm type intake
camshaft somehere in the upper 22x's duration @ .050
650 double pumper or some really good tuning on a BBC tbi unit
3500 stall
3.73's with 26" tire, 4.10's with 28" tire, mt drag radial or better, no less...a hardtire ain't gonna cut it
longtubes and proper flowing exhaust
don't overdue the extra goodies, keep it simple so the weight will stay down.

More realistic for my pocket
Lt1 cam
A good tune since my 305 stock chip still in
3.73 sound good I'm gettin a 255/50/18 rear tire I don't know how tall it is
I have eBay longtubes
Rusted Magnaflow but will be switchin to flowmaster this month hopefully
I do want to go fast but I still wanna see mid 20's in mpg
So where would this get me rear bumpers on ls1's?
But I'm loving this advice the whole reason this thread was made.

you will go slower with the flowmaster
you cannot get any cheaper than i just posted. i could do all of those things for under $1k...just gotta look around for deals.
if you want 30 mpg, buy a prius. 30 mpg isn't going to happen on your budget...that would require ls1 swap or the like. a properly tuned carb will get as good, if not better mileage than your ancient tbi setup will

no way you're fitting a 255/50R18 tire on your car, that's a SUV 4x4 tire height.

get acquainted:

an lt1 cam in that stock motor with 3.73's might go bottom 15's or upper 14's

Well its where I'm at, its my daily driver so even tho I work at a gas station I'm not trying to fill up every few days either.
I'm pretty sure as smart as everyone is here, keeping up with an ls on the track and mpg is do able with tbi.
I learned a lot tonight. Didnt think ya would make me look so stupid teaching me tho.

most guys who want that 18" rim look also are running rubber band thick tires in the 26" diameter range, not running 28" tires all around that are 11" wide. Which I wasn't aware fit up front easily.
you're not keeping up with an ls1, stock or not....your car won't crack into the low 13s with how its setup. TBI is tough to program anything really well.

Well most here want to lower their car too. I'm on 14's I hate it. These longtubes give me a 2in clearance. So I want to throw it in the air

keeping up with an ls motor with a tbi motor in mileage and on the track will require lots of tuning...start reading the DIY tuning section on here if you wanna go that route.
