however the L98 is a better lookin gmotor hands down... if it matters
no, i think a magnaflow on an L98 makes it sound like a boat engine.

never have been a fan.

it's not that i don't like the sound of the LS, my 6.0l sounds awesome at 7k rpm through the aerochamber.

Re: 3.42 mild 350 vs LS1

I have to agree.Going from l98 to lsx..I dont see myself going back for any reason. And lets face it..most guys doing an ls swap in a 3rdgen barely keep it stock for long and most decide to do longtube headers right away which I wish I did. L98 off idle was fun but that only lasts for so long.Having my stock ls1 that still has good torque off idle..but that curve carries through much nicer through the entire band for a hair raising ride to 6k+ rpm is alot more fun.

Im opposite on the magnaflow opinion though lol.I loved it more on my 383 hsr than I do my current 6.0 when comparing idle.At wot though 6700rpm with my 6.0..that magnaflow has a unique howl that is enjoyable

Let me break this question down further...whose girlfriend was more likely to pee her pants in the passenger seat from the sudden acceleration when you drop the hammer off idle or at low speed? The guy in the LS1 or the guy in the L98? I don't know the answer myself, but thats the question Im interested in. (assume close to stock for both)

From my experiences to be honest.Us guys like the seat of the pants feel of torque more and scare more girls with it..but women seem to like mid-topend horsepower.Kinda like alot of women like sport bikes..its the topend and highspeed that gets them.We just assume they like torque because we are the ones grinning ear to ear while they hold on to anything they can thinking your about to crash lol.

Re: 3.42 mild 350 vs LS1

I had a 88 350 TPI 5 speed iroc a couple of months ago, and I currently own a 1998 automatic LS1 Camaro.

Both cars only had a K&N Filter and Muffler.

The auto LS1 car is MUCH faster. It would put a car length, maybe two on the Iroc before the Iroc would get to 2nd gear.

And everything else is night and day. The LS1 would put about 3-4 car lengths on the IROC from a 50-80 roll.

As far as a "torque" example, the LS1 Camaro will break the tires loose at a 30 roll, then accelerate hard if you give it full throttle. The Iroc would simply accelerate. Both have similar tires.

If the LS1 Camaro had a 6 speed, it would even be even more superior than the IROC.

My 305 won't touch the LS1. It actually would keep up from a 30 roll, simply because the ls1 car would loose traction, but once the ls1 gets traction, its over.

And then theres part throttle. The LS1 is just much peppier. I can pull out infront of traffic with 40% throttle and still accelerate pretty hard, while with the 350 or 305 camaro, I would have to give it about 70% throttle.

Re: 3.42 mild 350 vs LS1

To the original question the ls1 car all day. I had a mild built 355 with a built 700 and I put down 300whp and still bolt on ls1 6 speed cars would walk me all day. And my car dead hooked on the street. I'd have a car or 2 from a dig but then get realed in hard, bolt on LT1 cars with manuals are making 300+ whp let alone ls... If you want to hang with "quick" cars and still be streetable go lsx hands down
