89 turbo t/a vs. 96 corvette

I don't own either car, was just curious on what you guys think. Stock for stock.
Friend has a base model corvette, 96, auto.
The specs seem to be real close and I'd like to see this race. Curb weight, torque are both real close.
The hp rating says 250 for the TTA, but most folks say it was 300, same as the vette.
Predictions anyone?

I'm not sure of the 1/4 mile time of the Vette, but with it being an auto, and doing free mods on the TTA, I would have to go with the TTA, but in the end it will come down to the driver.

My money would be on the TTA. A guy I used to go to school with had a stock 87 GN and he embarrassed my friend in his 93 40th anniversary edition vette and that's rated the same as a 96. Figure that the TTA is ATLEAST as fast or quicker than a GN.

I dont know where you were looking at the curb weight specs...but the 'vette should be lighter than the TTA. That said I say the TTA wins still

The `vette is barely 60lbs lighter than the TTA.
I said they were close, not exact.

The 96 corvette with auto trans is rated at 300 hp, an 335 ft/lb of torque. ive driven a friends 96 auto vette, which is totally stock, and ran a best of 13.6 at 102 mph. The turbo trans am, i believe, is rated at 250 hp (but was probably more like 275), and 325 ft/lbs. Ive seen stock examples of this car at my local track, and have seen them run anywhere from 14.3 to 13.7. With a different driver, the results may have been better. I think the cars are both equal. It all depends on the driver. One person in this forum said " with free mods, the TTA will win". We're talking TOTALLY STOCK. If the TTA can have free mods, so can the Vette. Just for thought, if the 96 Vette had been a manual (and automatically equipped with the LT4 motor), it would see 13 flat or possibly high 12s, beating the TTA by a long shot.

Well we aren't talking about the LT4, that has 30 extra horses along w/ the stick.

I'm talking base model `vette, which as far as the link I posted has 300hp/340torque. Diff. sources welcome.

As far as the TTA, most places/sites including the source page say it dynoed at 300hp. And it has 340 torque as well. But that's where the main speculation comes in since GM had to rate it at 250 because of that years 255hp vette.

And of course free mods aren't in questions either
0 mods for 0 mods. I think I'm just gonna hafta buy one and try it out!

It'll be close

I still go with the TTA dead stock versus dead stock. HP ain't everything and that sucker makes torque with a capital "T"

But if you were to compare free mods to free mods just remember that "free" mods on a 3.8 Turbo will drop a full, real world second of the ET, versus maybe a tenth or two on the N/A LT-1 motor.

Never underestmate ANY motor with a hair dryer on it.

My TTA bone stock with 500 miles on it ran 13.55, but with a chip, fine tuning and learning to drive it, I ran 12.42 @111.2.

Ran an Lt1 Vette on the freeway, only mods are chip, K&N, test pipe, running around 17#'s boost and had about 3-5 cars on him from 70 to about 110. I'm sure the vette was stock though. IMO both cars in tune and close 60's, TTA takes the Vette, but not by much.

Thank you, I'm glad somebody realized that.
