86 Trans am WS6 vs 91 Fox Body

I did install my new AS&M runners and a awesome job on porting and polishing up the upper plenum. I did feel a difference in power all through the rpm's. also ran a friends 91 5.0 mustang/auto with 35,000 miles with a cold air intake and ignition mods and a cat back and a little weight reduction from a light going on to a highway and from the dig I consistently ripped from him and on a roll from 35+ I pulled from him. I didn't pull real hard but I pulled from him with no problem. but from the dig. . .... I raped him bad..

I thought the fox body's were suppose to be more superior in straight line? I have also raced an 86 fox body and beat it even worse than the 91.

Automatic fox bodies are slow... I just sold one. I love stockish matchups like these though! Always fun throwing it down like the 90s!

5.0 auto back then was an absolute disappointment. A friend had one with a vortec 12 psi and it had a hard time running 12s without a bunch of extra bolt ones.
Another 5.0 full bolt ons full weight GT, 3000 stall, 4.10 gears and a b303 cam ran 13.00 back in the early 90s.

A friend had a 5.0 auto fox with 2.73 gear and it was a turd.
Swapped in a 4.10, trans freshen with nice converter and it woke up big time. Think it went from 15s to mid/high 13.s

I had a stock 91 Z28 5.0 TPI auto that ran 14.7s-14.9s and it would outrun Fox Bodies with the auto. Stick shift Fox bodies would outrun me every time though.

x3
If he had a gear and converter or stick woulda been different, autos were slow as hell couldnt give one away back then.
Love the 80s era fox bodys would like another one day. My 86 which was 3 yrs old got stolen, wound up in Mexico, cop down there had it for yrs. Damn...that was a real good solid car.

Re: 86 Trans am WS6 vs 91 Fox Body

The AOD is a granny tranny for sure. But with saying that my buddy had a 88 gt with a auto that had a cold air and flowmaster cat back and it ran dead even from a slow roll with my 88 gta g92 ws6 auto B2L. That auto fox ran pretty good. Not sure on what gear it had in the back but it sure didn't run like a 2:73 etc.
