My dad had a 302 Boss Mav(way not stock) back in the day and it'd take super CJ Mustangs and plenty of Z's. You just need to put that boat anchor six where it belongs and get the proper engine in there. That'd be a nice sleeper.

That's what I'm saying...drop a windsor in that thing, throw a set of AFR 185's on it, FTI cam, good intake and you're set.

windsor? if you are gonna go, go all out. i am not a ford fan by any means, but a buddy of mine used to have a really built fast back mustang(set up for 1/8mile and street racing) and i can tell you there are few sounds in the world like a high compression 351 cleveland getting shifted at 7500rpm.

With the aftermarket the windsors have these days a Cleaveland is a waste of time and money. You can make a lot more power for a lot less money with the Windsor.

Id definetly go for the 351C. Ive heared of a few Mav's w/ 351C stuffed in them.

what is the difference between the two 351c and the 351w

but trust me this mav is not worth having a motor like that put into it

the thing is not just slow but it is a PITA to drive after driving my rx7 for so long
even the celica drove better

Basically the only similarity is the displacement.

Think of the 351W as a 302 with a longer stroke. Anything that fits on a 302 will fit on the Windsor except for the lower intake plenum, but several companies make them though. With the huge aftermarket the windsor has, it's the motor of choice for the Ford guys these days. A lot of the Mustang guys are swapping to the 351W and stroking them out to 377, 393, and 408 cubic inches.

The Cleaveland was the motor to have 30 years ago. The canted valves are great for a high rpm application, but it's just not reasonable for a street driven application. The aftermarket really just never caught on with these, so hardly anyone serious about racing still uses them.

Just .02 from a Ford guy...
