84 Z28 vs 93 Bonneville
heres one for you: my brother (TunedPort) gets his full license in about 2 weeks, and weve been wondering... whos daily driver is faster? his stock 93' Bonneville (3.8 w 110k), or my stock 84' Z28 (LG4 w 89k). By the way, his car is NOT supercharged. i think the specs on his car is something like 175hp and somewhere in the low 200s for torque. we are definately gonna go at it when he gets his license, but for now we'd settle for some bench racing figures. what do you think?

that should be close. i'll go with the Z though if it's in a good state of tune. it's got more torque and less weight even though it's missing 10 horsepower (LG4s were 165 horse right?).
'93 3800 (3.8) V-6
170 hp @ 4800 rpm
225 ft.lbs. @ 3200 rpm
Not bad numbers for the engine, and would probably be a good match for a stock LG4 if it was in an identically equiped 3rd gen f-body. But those Bonnevilles are heavy, and they're geared more for fuel economy than performance. I say you'll beat him pretty good.

a 40 mph roll is not a good judge of how fast a car is, some cars will downshift to first while others stay in second and are really slow. I know my 97 lumina won't downshift to first unless you're going under 30 mph, thus, i wouldn't race anyone from 40 mph.
best way to tell is a straight up race from stop.

I think you will take me, but not by that much. I know ill get lot better traction, when I raced your car, it got a lot of wheel spin, and when I launched mine before, it doesn't get to much. Thanks to front wheel drive! But you have a big weight advantage over me. Well if you shift it right, get a good launch, then Im done for, but it still will be fun. By the way, I get my license in one week!

I've had my '94 SSEI for 3 weeks now and I still have not had the joy of crushing someone. No one wants to play. Tell you what that car has alot more pwr than I thought it would. Maybe I'll have to take off the SSEI/supercharged badges.
