That sucks...

Wow that is horrible to hear. I hope you are alright. Didn't see any article in the LA Times so I am not sure they ran it. Let us know what happens. Is your buddy being charged?
Senior Member
Thats terrible for you and everyone else involved. I'm not implying anything but it's really easy to say it was the fault of the people that cant tell their side of the story........mainly because they are dead
Plus if you hadnt been drinking you should have veen driving the car regardless but since you probably were call a cab next time. Maybe he was drunk or just careless... hell i'll give you the benefit of the doubt maybe it WAS their fault but in the end what does it matter? There are 3 dead kids, you, and your friend that ran over them. Both of you will live with this for the rest of your lives your fault or not. Could you guess this comes close to my heart?

Yeah, that's pretty crappy

My only question is, why would he drive thru a burnout cloud at 40mph knowing it's crowded, I know in parking lots or wherever there's a lot of traffic, I'm very alert and cautious.
Supreme Member
look what ya get for street racing. how many times can people say it TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!!!
Member
wow. that is really disturbing. i am not going to point fingers or say who is to blame just from reading the story, but we shouldnt all blame the author. Im sure he wishes it never happened. And now he knows the consequences. This should be sent to all the kids who think its cool to do this ****ing ****. Being 18 myself, i see this kind of **** all the time (not the accident part of course) but its time to put an end to it. My best wishes go out to the families. Sorry it had to be you pal.

IMO he was driving fast thru the races.. it sucks having to live thru it.. i have had 1 sometimes 2 panic attacks a day since it happened.. totally made me stop working on my camaro..

The panic attacks will pass after a while, I am a search and rescue team leader and I go to car wrecks and plane wrecks and all that so I know how you feel first hand.Originally posted by loomdog32

I was going down the highway in Indianapolis and saw a BAD wreck in front of me, a semi truck was stoped but not off the road all the way and a lady in a little Geo bent over at 70 mph to pick up something on the floor and the second she sat up she hit the semi, she was ejected from the car and slid a good 100 feet. I pulled off the road and grabed my medic bag ans did a OHHHH SH*T, the only thing left of her was from the wait up and the road burns where pretty bad, she had the part of the seat belt that goes across your chest behind her so it did not hold her back and cut her in half from the wait up, the thing is is that she was nt dead but was screaming and grabed me screaming help me help me I want to live and I could only say im sorry and she dies about a minute later. Even if a life line chopper was there she still would have died, I still have nightmares from that and then about a mounth ago I had a POS honda try and race me and I said no, later he was upside down in a dich with a white sheet over the car (the white sheet means someone died) and a hand in the road, apparently he stoped at a rest stop then floord it on the on ramp and hit the NOS but did not check his blind spot and he clipped a semi and spun it then flipped it, Then one day my Seach and Rescue unit got a new airplane and my unit commander took me up for a flight and it was a brand new cessna 172 with about 10 grand in extra radio and search equipment and he took me back down and told me he had to leave and go back to nortern Indiana so I sail ok catch you later sir, later that night I was called in and was told a ELT was going off (emergency locater transmitor) so we went looking for it and found it an hour later and well it was that cessna and my unit comander splaterd everywhere, the sad thing is that his wife was with us
Since then I have had counceling to deal with it and the other missions and car wrecks, now I just keep it all in the back of my mind and it dosent bother me anymore, you never forget it or get used to it, it just does not bother you anymore and after a while it wont bother you and you will move on because dwelling on it will rip you apart, trust me I know from experianceI am sorry this is so long and graphic but I hope it helps some what.

i know all about what an ELT is.. i used to be on a search and rescure team in cenral cali for downed aircraft.. Civil Air Patrol (the best kept secret of the US Air Force).. ive seen many dead bodies from the few aircraft ive found.. but nothing really prepares you for watching something like that and going thru that experience.. oh well.. i got REALLY LUCKY.. it really makes me think that im susposted to do something w/ my life besides be a lasy bum..

Wow, man that's an incredible experience, i'm sure no one ever wants to see. Personally, I couldn't imagine seeing someone die like that [reminds me of BlackHawk down, closest thing I can relate to].
I've flown a new 172 [a 2000 R] and yea, they're nice, especially those instrument panels, i'm sorry to hear about your commander. Has the NTSB determined the cause of the accident? Not to really bring up bad memories, just curious.

I was never part of the SAR detachment, but we had a team and I heard the stories... nothing fun to go through I'm sure...

Advanced national ground search and rescue school
Cadet ranger/sar instructor
Advanced comuninications

swift river rescue
steep angle rescue
Edmond composite squadron Edmond Oklahoma
BLACK KNIGHTS huyyaaa
I am thinking about getting out though, ever since that cadet protection policy came into effect it has not been the same
The NTSB just said they bealive it was some sort of mecanical failure, kind of weid since the airplane only had some hundred hours on it and was inspected before he took delivery of it from the air force
The one good mission I was on was never a mission I was at a air show and a low wing airfract hit the runway, snaped the landing gears and slip 200 feet into the ditch but no one died so me and a buddy pulled them out just before the left tank blew, the sad thing is that a fire truck was at the end of the runway and it took them 10 minutes to get to us.....
but the airport was shut down (FAA rules) and at the end of the day we put the plane on a flat bed tow truck and cleaned up the runway, the news said that the plane hit a air bbubble that slamed it in the ground but the piolt told us that he just was not paying attention, now he flies his personal leir jet.

Hey, when & where did this crash occur? Sorry, but i'm really intrigued by it [probably an instrument failure in actual conditions, like the vacuum pump] .
About your bud with the Learjet, yea that does suck, I bet that accident occurred on a warm day too freakin downdrafts all over the place if there's not an updraft [dam parking lots making thermals
) But it sounds like you've had an active aviation experience, I certainly hope your driving experience isn't as active.

It happend about 2 years ago maybe a little less. It was at the greenwood municipal airport in greenwod Indiana, it was a nice day and was not a mechanical failure just a little down draft and he was not paying any attention.Originally posted by 84TransAm

Most people in cap never go on a mission with a crashed airplane 99% of the time its a false alarm and I have been on two, some guys just own a ELT and think its funny to turn them on
But I only have one wreck on my record and it was not my fault, I never saw it coming and no tickets

I totally agree w/the Fast and the Delerious adding to street racing. Where im at actually a lotta people go to the tracks. We got one about a half hr from me..and fri nite is amatuer nite. People take their cars there and settle things instead of the street..i wanna get up there w/my camaro some time to see what it does. The only time i ever even consider a street race is usually late as hell at nite (atleast past midnight), light to light, and no one is on the road. I think it aint werth it and its def better to go to the track. Thats just my 2 cents tho.

sgt. Chamberlin, i want to thank you for your sevices to the community. Also, i would like to say that someone with your experience lives somewhat near me. I live in shawnee but i work in MWC at the chevy dealership. If you are ever in nead of parts or somethin come bye to chevy service and ask for Justin, i will try and help you get what you need. I dont street race, its just a bad idea and i cant afford any tickets, I am sorry for everyone involved.
I have never been to 39th street, i would like to go, just to watch, I know that it is dangerous though. I have also never been to thundervalley, but after i complete the resurection of my car i will go down there a couple times. I am more interested in running SCCA, so i'm running against time only, not people. Later, take care everyone and be careful, think before you act please

I am more interested in running SCCA, so i'm running against time only, not people. Later, take care everyone and be careful, think before you act pleaseits reasons like this that Im glad there arent any major street racing places down here near houston. sure there is westeimer, but no one lines the sides of the streets there, its just stoplight to stoplight. Ive only been there twice, and thats enough for me, Im not about to go endangering my car, myself, and my friends with all of the idiot ricers out there. 90% of the cars out there are p.o.s. imports that drive like they're the **** and dont give a damn about anyone else out there. here in angleton, we cruise down to lake jackson and meet up in a parking lot. then, if anyone wants to race, we head out down the highway, always past 10:00 so theres less people, wait till the road clears, then its just 2, maybe 4 cars on the road at a time. sure its still dangerous, you never know what could happen, but atleast this way we are only endangering ourselves if something should happen, not some poor shmuck that wasnt even doing anything. plus doing it this way, we can watch for cops, theres plenty of grass on both sides should someone have to hit the shoulder, and we can go literally for miles without seeing someone else. street racing is all a game, and you gotta know the rules and the consequences of what you do. but its just like anything else that has risks, if you're going to do it, you accept the risks and move one, knowing full well that one day it could happen to you. the way I see it, if Im going to die anytime soon, I want it to be doing something I love, and racing is one of those things. flying is another, thats why Im going into Air Force ROTC, to do what I love and do what needs to be done. its the same thing no matter what you do, you look at the risks and consequences of what you do, accept those risks and move on, or find something else to do. there are ways to safely street race, and every time I go out I am fully aware of what could happen, but I do everything I can to minimize the chance of anything going wrong. the fewer the people the better, the more wide open the better, the straighter the road the better, and finally, the smarter the drivers the better. people that try to do stupid **** are the ones that get people killed. drive smart, and you dont. ok, stepping off the soap box now.
later, and safe driving
later, and safe driving

I see street racing all the time around me. Havent seen a crash yet though. Most the time everyone lifts at about 70 or 80 and then brakes hard back down to 50. I have never seen are race between two ungodly fast cars either.
