raced a 99 maro today...

well, i raced my buddys 99 camaro 3.8 5spd today after work, we both pulled out of the drive way and raced a few miles, highest speed i hit was 100-105. i had to keep the rpms up pretty high to keep up (took her to about 5000-5300 b4 lettin it shift each gear), but in the end i only lost by about 3 car lenghs. not bad for a stock 2.8 auto with dual gutted airboxes and in pretty good overall running condition. my quest is, what cheaper thing(s) if their are any could i do to win next time???

(i gots an 88 camaro)

I've seen STOCK....I repeat STOCK 3.8 Auto's run 15.2's and I've seen STOCK 3.8 5 speeds run 15.0's all day long.

You did not lose by only 3 car lengths if you raced longer than 1/4 mile....

this must be a great month for thirdgens, geez, i mean, here i read that a thirdgen beats a twin turbo rx-7, walks an audi S4 and now that a 2.8 liter thirdgen gets beat by a few carlengths in the quarter against a 99 camaro. interesting. if its a consolation of any sort, i absolutely smoked, i mean smoked a mid 80's four banger mustang. i jumped on it so hard it was as if he put it in reverse. i let off once i got into second. maybe i should go pick on the guy in town with a 10 second civic

That's a suprise, considering I owned 2 of them, good lord were they slow. I got beat by a Neon once in the 4spd. The thing is I had a 4" cowl hood and wing on it, I know some may call it rice, but I did it cause it looked good, I knew my car was a slow piece of crap.
