Rear ended!

Here I am coming home from work on the 401 and normal stop and go traffic, car in front stops hard, I stop hard and a little civic smacks me in the back. It damaged the bumper (paint really) but get this, the civic slid under my car. It disloged my flowmaster from 2 brackets, tearing 1 of the rubber brackets I had there. The civic is fairly damaged, the support beam with the hood latch is bent in a good 2 inches and the hood is bent in at the 1/3 mark. I just wanted to vent before my whiplash takes hold of me and little comments like LO3 sucks make me explode when they normally wouldn't. Glad I didn't get that paint job done a few weeks ago. Resonance from a flowmaster 80's is terrible right now. I had the extra rubber brackets put in to keep the resonance from coming into the car, now at 2k rpm it really does a number. I can see why people wonder about the resonance issue.

update after 3 hrs of grueling work.

I managed to get the tongue hook back in and reattached my muffler bracket with a bolt. the exhaust now sits 1/4 of an inch out more on the left and 1 1/2 inch back in on the right. I managed to move it around a bit to get the hole to clear the bumper at least. The uneveness gets on my nerves. I now have a new issue to.. my rear hatch now sits 1/6 of an inch higher on the right than the body...I figure I can correct this by adjusting the screw in cushion but man this is a pain.

The impact hyperflexed my rear axle causing a break in the differential seal. I just changed the fluid last week dammit. I think he should owe me a new 9-bolt posi.... but that's going overboard hehe

had this happen before

Back in '87 I rear ended one guy then got rear ended by a Toyota on the 401 & Dixie (one of those chain collisions). My front was smushed and my back was bashed. Bad day for me and the old Z.

The car got fixed not to my liking I tried to fight the INS CO but how well can you fight with a fulltime job and no spare car to drive when yours is in the shop ?

A few months after the repairs were done my trunk is full of water. SO I call the GM dealer and they tried to find the leak but never did. Years later the car still collected water in the rain I was always bailing out the trunk (oh yeah it never occurred to me to drill a hole in the floorwell !!!).

Note to myself -- don't sign off on a rear-ended f-body until you have been through alot of weather and find it free of leaks !

Sorry to hear about the accident.
RP.

The weekend update. Since getting hit screwed up my center pipe cat to flowmaster, I have to get it changed. The bend in it is making a bit of a restriction and with insurance not giving me the go ahead to fix it until it gets looked at by their people, I have to wait another week. The good news is its covered by insurance (no fault on me, all his) and will be covered so gonna get a new 3 inch stainless steel pipe for my car. The old one save for the damage was in good shape, 1 year old, winter driven, no rust/corrosion to speak of and served me well. I was just wondering though if that its actually possible to do a mandrel style bend for the over the axle bend as my previous pipe did not. Its no loss to me if it isn't I just want it the way it was with a bonus
