holy **** man, try this stuff, restores your paint 2 new!

after i went to darknights, i noticed a bunch of tiny chips on my paint. got a little pissed off since it was a new car, but whatever.

today i went to canadian tire and bought this blue colored wax from "turtle wax". it comes with a little chapstick/lipstick thingy.

anyhow, basically you find a chip, rub the chapstick on it, and then put the blue wax overtop. Let's just say every little flaw on my car disappeared. You know the front ground effect, it use to be all scratched up on the tip, but now it looks brand spanking new! I recommend you guys try this stuff it rox and it is worth the 12 dollars!

Axle/Gears: Yup -- they still work
the more time on the 401 the more chips

If you spend much time on the 401, 400, etc then you will start to notice many micro chips show up in your paint on the nose, lower fairing and hood. They can eventually get so bad you will need a repaint. I used to commute from Mississauga to North York in my '85 IROC and after two years the nose (paint) was toast. When I went to the body shop to get it repainted I paid dearly they had to grind it to the metal in many places then do the base and paint.

Driving surrounded by dump trucks is where most of the paint chips come from. SO I stay off the hiway as much as possible -- easy in my case.

The color coded turtle wax is great until you wash the car twice in which case the micro chips will show up again. All that stuff does is leave blue wax in the chips. I use it for the lower half of my car -- the upper half I use Mothers Carnauba.

You had better get yourself to GM (oh yeah DON'T GO TO CDN TIRE) and buy some touch up paint for your car this is the right way to deal with micro chips -- if you don't eventually one of them will bubble and your paint and finish will be toast.

Be careful matching the touch up paint the GM dealers colour codes for '91 & '92 3rd gens are a little messed up. For instance my colour code came up as Sapphire Black which it is obviously not. I ran the RPOs through the decoder on one of the U.S. web sites and it shows up as Ultra Blue. There is also some confusion between Quasar Blue and Ultra Blue. The late '91s and '92s used Ultra Blue which as I understand was a Vette colour but don't have facts to back that up -- the late '90s and early '91s got Quasar Blue. How did I find out ? I put Quasar Blue on my paint only to find it did not match.

good luck,
RP.

For me the drive on the 401 and the rest of the GTA is a walk in the park. I have fond memories of LA... New York City... San Francisco... now that was stop and go murder for my car...

My fondest memory goes to the Arizona dust storm that started my little paint it myself project a year ago...
