Cooling Problem!!!! Help!

Could bad plugs or wires cause overheating? Ive checked everything cooling system wise and everything seems fine.... Didnt have a fan shroud, just bought one, still overheating... When the car gets hot, it seems to want to shake a bit.. Almost like a wire is fouling once its hot or something..? The wires are right next to the headers also.. When the engines cold and warming up, it runs like a dream.. I ripped apart an LT1 vette... Than once its hot, it runs like ****... And when its really hot, if i give it WOT it wont produce power over like 3000 rpm... Rad, water pump, thermostat all good... It has a cranked fan but i also have an electric fan... ANyone help?

have you replaced the pump? If so, you may have the wrong pump. Serpentine systems use a different direction pump, so I've been told.. maybe the flow is going the wrong way?

Anyway.. I have my own cooling system problems AGAIN!!!

Very possibly a bad pump. I don't think it would be the wires or ignition...but have you checked your plugs for any fouling? Perhaps you got a smalll leak into one of the cylinders? I'm totally guessing here though.

No power over 3000 rpm leads me to believe you more than likely have an ignition problem.

Wait till it's dark and get a spray bottle to mist around the ignition wires in the dark to see if you can spot any sparks.

Also- check your distributor to make sure the advance weights are moving freely.

If it gets too hot there is an extreme temperature cutoff on the manifold that will shut off your car, at high temps though it would give the sense of trying to cut off...

I'm with Slade

Sounds like you have looked after all of the cooling system items.

I am assuming you have installed a 3 or 4 core rad. (Absolutely required once you upgrade to 350 or more cubic inches.)

I am also assuming that you have not removed the air dam on the bottom of your car. (Also absolutely required to direct air throught the radiator)

This being said your problem could be exhaust related. If you are running exhaust manifolds they better be the 2 and 1/4 id version or you will have major heat problems due to the engines inability to get rid of the exhaust gas and its related heat.)

other exhasut related problems could be any other restrictions in the exhaust system ie. too small of a y pipe, plugged cat, plugged muffler, dented and pinched exhaust pipes etc.

My guess is the exhaust restriction as it sounds like you have the cooling system operating well.

I found the problem... It was sooooooooooo simple! But 4 licensed mechanics couldnt even figure it out.... It turns on that there wasnt enuff belt on the water pump pulley... At high rpms the fan wasnt even moving, the belt would just slip.... I had a belt going from crank to fan/water pump, to altenator.. Than a belt going from power steering to crank... I put a belt from power steering to water pump to crank, so its wrapped around the pulley and now shes runnin sweet.... Thanks for the help guys... I spent about 500 bucks on other **** that i thought was the problem (or whut the mechanics thought), to find out that it could be solved in 5 mins and 20 bucks.... BRUTAL!
