So what's your preference in oil?

I've been Quaker State/Castrol 5w30 synthetic blends for over two years, no complaints but am thinking of trying out another type. My lifters can be heard now since I got the underpulley kit so I'm wondering if you guys have a brand/combo that can possibly quiet them down and give great protection without the thickeners as a solution...

Depends...If you're gonna go dino oil then I would suggest Castrol GTX 5W30. If you want synthetic, then I would go with Mobil1 5W30. I've been using Mobil1 for the last two years with no complaints. Full synth is more expensive, but if you do the oil change yourself with the 4-5L jugs from Walmart, including filter it will only cost you about $30 total. I've just recently switch to Valvoline Maxlife so I'm yet to report on that. One little interesting facts that most don't know about Maxlife is it is actually a synthetic with a moly additive, but cheaper than most advertised synthetics on the market. But like I said, I just started using it so I don't have any comments on it right now.

Mobil1 & Lucas

I use Mobile1 synth I have to look at a left over litre to see if it was 5w50 or 5w30 ?

I'm pretty sure it was 5w30 -- my motor is pretty low mileage. I'll probably switch to 5w50 when I hit 100,000kms. I use about 4 liters of Mobil and one liter of Lucas additive.

The Mobile oil is about $7.50 a liter with tax and the Lucas additive is about $9.00. Expensive stuff but I beat on the 305 from time to time so I consider it to be cheap insurance.

RP.

I use catrol gtx and mobil 1 every now and then.

Does that lucas stuff work? I saw a little demo display in a marina once with 2 sets of 3 gears seperated, one set in oil with lucas and normal oil and you could see lucas coated a bit better when you turned the wheel. Kinda neat.

I use Mobil1 15W50 synthetic with Delco truck filters. I seriously doubt that you'll find a difference between all the different brands of mineral based oils.
