it is easy if you have a partner to help and some basic knowledge
I had mine done in two days and we didnt kill ourselves working
I noticed a huge difference and it was worth every penny
It decreased my wallet by about $1000 but a lot of that was self inflicted.

If you have any questions or need advice let me know I done my swap last October

Hey Paul!

I got a T5 complete set from an 86 T/A. The guy told me he had it rebuilt with the mechanic knowing it was going behind a 350. I won't be abusing the T5 nor will I be doing hard launch's at every light everyday. You think I should still do this? How did your T5 hold up? Money is an issue with the T56.

Camaro_Joe - Paul's reply might help with your decision. A T56 is an expensive swap compared to a T5. But the benifits are better obviously. If funds are an issue than go with a T5 for now than upgrade to a T56. This way half the conversion is done since a T56 will require a new cross member (custom) and other minor mumbo jumbo. There's a good tech article on this board re both conversions. Also, go to http://www.deadbird.org/tech/crap.htm. They have a couple of good articles regarding this swap.

Hope this helps

My T5 is behind a 383 right now. It has about 1500klicks on it so far and there have been no signs of breakdown or wear due to the torque. I think most of the bad things you hear about the T5 are from people that either a) don't know how to shift properly or b) pound the crap out of it from day 1.

Cruz'N Bruz'R - Your right. I've heard those say that if you shift properly, know how to drive stick properly and don't pound the crap out of it....it will hold.
