Awhile ago my car started doing 1 tire burnouts or just spinning one tire on take off or wet roads etc... Anyway I was under the rear today changing the sway bar bushings and bolts (which happened to be a huuuuuuge pain in the ***
) and noticed fresh oil that must be leaking through the seal at the pinion. So now I am wondering if anyone thinks topping it off and adding some limited slip additive should fix it or if i should pull the cover off and have a looksy?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Dump the fluid and replace it with some synthetic diff fluid and GM additive. Johnston's here in Kemptville should have a few gaskets in stock.

It won't hurt to take the cap off and replace all the fluid. It's a bit of a pain if you dont' have a hoist to put it way up in the air, but it's not that hard. And the gasket from GM is only $12, RTV is $4 and the fluid, depends on what you go with. Synthetic will cost you about $20. I went with the Royal Purple which was $34 for two bottles (I know...ouch), but it doesn't require the additive.
Alright thanks, I will drain it all out. Ya its a pain without a hoist but I did it when I changed the rear wheel bearings and seals. I spent a loooong time under the car yesterday trying get the bolts and, nuts and washers off the swaybar/frame (with a torch it wouldve been easy, but flaming rubber stinks, not to mention its by the tank) so It shouldnt be to bad.

Kemptville may have the worst Canadian Tire on the planet. The shelves are empty and most of the people are idiots. I swear to ***, they've started cloning them rather than taking applicants. It's probably easier that way.Originally posted by ninety1TAgta

yeah the staff at canadian tires are very poor most of the time, mediocure at best.....
at the canadian tire in strathroy recently, i asked the parts boy if they had a rebuild kit for a rochestor quarda-jet carburator. he staired at me blankly.. i then said, you know the carb they used on millions of GM vehciles for liek 25 years....thgen i finally told him to look up my car on the computer and after repeating telling him i need a rebuild kit, he brought up the list of actual replacement carburators. after yet again saying i just needed a rebuild kit, he asked me what a rebuild kit was....i quickly informed him it contain gaskets, springs, etc to rebuild a carb...after pointing out to him that there was a section labelled carb rebuilt kits on his computer screen he told me that ye had one in stock. he went back to get it and came up a few minutes later and said he couldnt find it....and didnt offer to keep looking. i just said forget and left shaking my head in disbelief. auto parts is one section of a store where the people should actually recieve training and have at least a general knowledge of cars......however canadian tire has failed to realize this over and over.

On Contrare my Friend
I have had very good service from the guys at Canadian Tire in London at least the Wonderland road store and the White Oaks store. Ian at the White oaks store is a drag racer and very knowledgable on pony cars.
There are a couple of good guys at the store on Wonderland and Guess what If you check out the guys shirts some of them have a patch on their sleve that indicates that they have taken the special parts Training courses. The Oriental guy there got the third highest mark in Canada on the course If you need something I suggest you talk to him he is actually on the ball and seems to enjoy helping people out.

There's usually one older guy working somewhere in the automotive department of a Canadian Tire. He's almost always the one you want to talk to.
My brother and I asked a Canadian Tire employee about a brush guard for his new Pathfinder. He led us near the import ahem "performance" section, turned around, and asked "what's a brush guard?" Alright, no thanks...
It's often the same thing at the dealer actually. I went in asking for a TB/manifold gasket for my non-Vortec 4.3L TBI in my truck. The computer kept bringing up the Vortec diagram and the guy was getting irritated at me, insisting that the CPI system uses the same gasket even after I described the proper one in detail. Out of nowhere this older gentleman comes out, tosses the proper gasket on the counter, and walks away asking "Is that the one?" The first guy didn't say much of anything after that...
