Old drag effciency trick...
Old drag effciency trick...
I was reading the transmission and drivetrain board and came across this little tidbit...
Multiply ET by Trap Speed and see what you get.
The ideal number is 1320 for an ideal drag car. This means all its power is user properly Spohn would say put your power to the pavement... The higher meaning you've got power but its not going into ET that's for sure...
With my average times I end up with 15.7 @ 89.9 = 1409.
It'd be interesting to see who's running a low time AND has good efficiency... and if it holds up at all...
For kicks try reversing it and divide 1320 by your best trap speed and see what that power means in time if used properly...

This Drag efficiency calc or Hook factor works well
as long as your car doesn't have a top end problem like fuel flow.
An average car with say a 14.00 @99 mph =1386
If that same car looses fuel pressure in the top of high gear
at say 1000ft (vapour lock). The et would only slow say .15 but the mph could drop 5+ mph
14.15 @94 =1330
Some Super Stockers have a effeciency in the 1290's
They are geared so high and leave the line real hard but are
all peaked out well before the finishline because of their "STOCK"
cylinder heads.
Where as a Funny Car has a efficiency in the 1400's.
Just can't leave the line hard enough but really picks up speed and time further down the track when their clutch locks up.
I would generally agree thou that if your et and mph multiply out to 1320+/-, you've got a good working car.
I use this formula to help perdict my et/ dial in,, for bracket racing.

Hey cool... even my 3.8 is running efficiently according to this.
Best et : 16.04 @ 82.67 = 1326
2nd best that day 16.17 @ 81.66 = 1320 bang on!
Looks like all the tuning has paid off.
That pass was at GB the day everyone had new best times
Now this... 16.5 @ 88.24 = 1455
Lots of top end but no launch that time = unefficient pass even though my highest mph.
Cool... this tells me I need to keep focusing on the launch as I begin to mod the car, and the rest will take care of itself
Thanks slade1, informative (and encouraging) post.

Basically what I'm getting from that is that I've squeezed all I can get out of this combo until I get a TC.
Darbleinad on the other hand pulled a high 13...but he trapped at 100 MPH. This means that he has the potential to drop that ET some just by sticking a launch.
