Yoooo Palric: I got a question for you!
I got a question for you.
I went to GM last week and ordered some touch up paint. I believe my RPO code gave the paint of "GM Med Metallic Quaser Blue" or something like that. Anyhow, touched up a few spots on my car, and the paint looks nothing like what I got on it!!!
Hmmm....
Any ideas?
Cuz I wanna repaint my entire engine compartment (want it to look brand new for my winter project) and I want to make sure I order the right paint...

I don't plan on buying the paint for the engine compartment from GM though. I wanna do a base/clear on it, not some lacquer or enamel ****. I just wanna know what color to get for sure...

been there and done that
Hey I know exactly what you mean. I bought Quasar Blue from Stedelbauer GM who emphatically, absolutely guaranteed beyond a shadow of a doubt that there can be any mistake that my car is QUASAR BLUE. Of course that same touch up paint that I bought did not match.
I found out later that my car is in 'Ultra Blue' which is not listed through CDN dealers. I got some of this stuff through GM but it took some work getting it. I forget the code I should have written it down. Oh yeah, in the CDN GM computer system my car is black with blue trim. Idiots. In the US it is listed as 'Ultra Blue'.
Oh yeah -- whats the deal with your engine bay why do you want to repaint it ? Last winter I pulled everything off the inner fenders and firewall. Then I cleaned it and waxed every blue surface I could get my hands on. You oughta try this it really cleans it up nice.

Unless your car is a US model with Miles instead of Km. The paint code may be wrong. DId you guys ever think maybe you cars have been painted? I deal with touchups and paint code everyday. Most off the time the reason it doesn't match properly is: sun fade, acid rain, bad car washes, and last but not least new paint job. Most touchup sticks are right on the money, it is the cars paint that is usually at fault. Canadians aren't the idiots here if they screwed up the RPO codes, Van Nuys Califronia...there are you idiots if the codes are wrong. Oh yes. there is a paint code that is called "Ultra Quasar blue mettalic" I used this on a 91 chevy truck. I "might" still have the spray bomb at work, if so, I will get the code and post it for you both. I think the prpblem here is like...color vs colour. Just a Us vs Canada lingo thing. They say Zed, we say Zee. IMO

My car has been repainted VERY nice job of it I might add. AFAIK the color is original. Maybe has some pearl ? Seeing as it was done in '98 I have wondered if they did not use a Vette color ? I've seen "Quasar Blue" and "Ultra Blue" not any combos. As far as I know Quasar Blue is a Chevy color and Pontiac with Ultra Blue. Same color diff names ? The Quasar Blue touch up doesn't match is all I know. The Ultra Blue does.

Easy...if you want paint to match it go to any deceint paint/supplies shop have their guy look at it vs. the paint code and he/she will be able to mix something up which is almost identical (dont go by what the code colour is since alot of factors may have altered things).. I had this done for my swift a couple of years ago and it was bang on...I can drop you the location of the place I went in Mississauga.

I made a mistake earlier. The two different Quasar blues are light Quasar which is code 9790 and Medium Quasar which is code 9791
