timing cover trick for camswappers
so you dont have to loosen the oil pan bolts...The timing cover is mangled but you can where I flattened it(blue RTV area)

it looks worse cause of the "accident"..lol but it leaked the first time I did it,put silicon on it the second time and it hasnt leaked for the next 10K miles...
The 3 yrs that I was doing this motor is the same threre yrs I had my 3 kids so I was kinda rushing doing my car most of the time..lol thats no excuse though..

That is a good I dea but I think a cleaner way of doing it is to cut just enogh of the inner lip off to allow for removal with the oil pan in place. I know your way worked but it looks like someone muckled it.
