Question about 1989 B4C

I had a guy e-mailing me telling me he has a 1989 Camaro RS with a 350 TPI stock...

He is telling me that nobody believes that his car is a 350 Stock.

I was just curious... did they have a 1989 B4C camaro with a 350 TPI stock?

here is his e-mail:

I have a really special 1989 Camaro RS. I've never seen one like it. It is an RS and it has a 350ci TPI, positive traction rear end, 3:7:3 gears, and 400hp. The 350 was factory, and everyone says that there is no such thing as an RS with the 350ci in it........factory anyways. I have a whole lot of work put into it and I would really like to show it off on your website. I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Dustin

I could be wrong, but I don't think the B4C option was available till 1991.

And no I don't think he's stock.

Axle/Gears: Yup -- they still work
No

The RS did not come with a 350 that early. Early on they had 305 TBIs then later some 305 TPIs.

The 3.73 rear gears was an '84 option with the Z28 5-speed. AFAIK that was the only year and model.

Some trivia: I knew a guy in Vancouver had an '91 RS with B4C it was an ex-RCMP chase car used by the detachment on the Sea-to-Sky Hiway. The car was totalled in a pursuit and this guy bought it an brought it back to life AFAIK he still auto-cross's the car. I was told at that time that it was it was B4C car and I don't remember whether it was an auto or stick, 305 or 350 ?

As for the 400hp well you can answer that one yourself. Tell him to sign up stock or not we'd love to see another car.

RP.

Police cars usually got the auto option, I haven't seen the thirdgen ones, but the fourth gen police cars that you'll see offered on e-bay almost always have an auto.

The RS option almost never usually incorporated any of the performance stuff... almost always a TBI...

The vin will prove if it is an original 5.7 TPI or not. If he joins the board (Or if not)and posts his vin we could run it through the vin decoder to see if its authentic. Anyone can substiute an 8 in the 8th position but the vin decoder will verify if its an authentic Vin # or not. I would say post a pic of the vin but anyone can photshop the 8th digit.
