Opps, e-test needs to be done during winter?

Well this is just great...

My car is all tucked away, although I have yet to disconnect the battery and tear down the intake (luckily). It has just been brought to my attention that since my GTA is registered in my father's name, the stickers will need to be renewed before his birthday, in early Feburary! Dammit, total oversight on my part, I just assumed that it was before my birthday in July like my truck (which is in my name).

Naturally, it'll need an e-test this year. Since I'm not counting on any more nice warm days this year, do I really have to pull it out mid-winter for a test or can I let the stickers expire and get it renewed in the spring? I'd have to get a temp permit to drive it to the test legally with expired stickers, but am I missing anything else? Would the insurance company care?

I miss driving it, but this isn't what I had in mind...

No need to worry, this happend to me with my 86 TA. My stickers were almost a year over due, but I was able to get a 10 day for the car during the summer. You will need to get the car e-tested before you can renew the stickers, but you can do that at your leisure. If you want to wait until the spring, i don't see that being a problem.

yeah i agree that waiting till its warmer is a good idea.......that way you can be sure the car wont be affected by the cold and you dont have to take the new paint job out in the snow and salt.

You're laughing, I know 2 guys that failed the E test and drove for months with Temp permits until they bought other cars. No E test required for a temp permit.

Mine was due last February but it wouldn't have passed so I drove w/out the sticker or got a temp permit every now and again. The car is an 83 so next year no e-test.

My insurer was quite pleased to take my money - e-test or not.

Great, thanks for the advise guys. I was worried that I'd have to re-register if I let the stickers expire. Well, at least with expired stickers that's one more good excuse to not take it out during winter. lol

The GTA passed it's e-test with flying colours when I bought it a year and a couple of months ago. The only work that's been done since then has been on the cooling system so it should be good to go. Hopefully opening up the plenum this winter won't hurt it...
